A non-call on a Logan Couture shootout goal mixed with a poor shootout effort to spell the Sharks 15th loss of the season, putting them back on the .500 line.

The game got off to a slow start, but at 6:17 Jamie Benn broke the tie, giving Dallas a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

Derek Joslin scored for the Sharks at 6:56 of the second to even things up, and 2 minutes later Ryane Clowe scored to give the Sharks the lead. Late in the period, the Stars got a power play goal from Mike Ribeiro to make the score 2-2 through 40 minutes.

With no more scoring in the third, the game went to overtime. There was a good pace to the overtime, and lots of chances, but no goals, which took the game to the shootout.

The Sharks opted to shoot first, sending out Calder candidate Logan Couture, who's shot was reviewed, but called no-goal. Jamie Benn, who scored the first goal of the game, shot first for Dallas and scored to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage in the shootout after round 1.

Joe Pavelski tallied for the Sharks in round 2 of the shootout, as did Brad Richards, to give the Stars a 2-1 advantage going into the third round.

Ryane Clowe's shot was stopped by Andrew Raycroft to give Dallas the shootout win by a final of 3-2.

Game Notes:

The Sharks Derek Joslin scored the first goal of his NHL career in his 47th game.

The Sharks Torrey Mitchell played just 6:59, by far his lowest total this season.

The Stars Mike Ribeiro has 5 goals this season, 3 of them coming against the Sharks.

The Sharks Patrick Marleau registered his first point in 5 games, getting the secondary assist on Derek Joslin's goal. His last point was a goal against the Ottawa Senators on December 2nd.

The Sharks Ryane Clowe now has 9 points in his last 5 games (4-5).

My Selections For The Sharks 3 Stars:

1: Derek Joslin (goal, +1)
2: Ryane Clowe (goal)
3: Patrick Marleau (assist, 5 shots)
