"Derek martineau's look into oil country"
Edmonton, AB • Canada • 25 Years Old • Male
It seems to me like most of the early successes and failures of other NHL franchises are drowning out any positive feed back of a surprising Oilers team.
If you by chance live outside of Alberta you would have probably not known that 2 of Edmonton's tops scorers are those players deemed to small for an already small team!
Even more surprising is the play of one Dustin Penner, 5 goals and 4 assists in 7 games.
Now if your a fan you can easily remember Mac-T ripping him through the media, was it not possible that this is a player that does not respond well to public rippings?? i believe so! With Quinn and Renney at the helm of this young impressionable team it seems they have responded well. Don't get me wrong there is much to improve upon with this team. For example the 3 or 4 shifts a game in which they are pinned in their own zone, which at times seems like 5 or 6 minutes, or limiting the amount of shots a game being thrown at their tenders. But in general this team is surprising even the most die hard of fans. (including this one)
with an impressive 4-2-1 record to start the season there is much optimism growing in oil country!
A couple players to keep an eye on early this season.
Brule- his play at center is among the best on the team, don't get me wrong horc is a horse and will be the number one center, but Brule is really shining under Quinn.
Hemsky- has been disappointing thus far early in the season but he will turn it around.
Gilbert- The rumblings are that if the scoring takes a drop he could be dealt, but with the injuries surrounding staois and souray he won't be going anywhere until they are off the shelf. With that said when they return i don't see a reason to not ship him off anyway. with the play of chorney in the absence of souray and staois, it is possible that they could move him.

Good blog. Anyone know what happened to Cloutier? Dont think Gilbert will be moved, especially with Souray out longer than originally expected. Chorney has looked decent but is still a rook. Gilbert's upside is way too much, and they would regret that move imo.

i agree but when shelly comes back and if the oil are pushing for a playoff spot come feb it wouldn't surprise me to see him go! chorney has played well in his short time but they also have peckham, jeff petry and plante! thanks i will be writing almost everyday so keep up with the feedback

Now Peckham....I would love to see him in the lineup. Tough, nasty stay-at-home type. Him and Smid could be a ferocious pairing. Plante looks decent too, don't think Petry is ready yet. Please keep writing..our blogger seems to have gone AWOL.

Good blog. Maybe Gilbert will pick up his game and we won't have to trade him.Khaby has been good lately too.

Peckham and smid are absolutely sick when it comes to the nastiness they bring to the table!! there are two more blogs i have written today! one is a small recap of last night and the other is just a blog of penner, small forwards, and eks relentless bs concerning oiler rumors
