Great news!! I just received the following email from WHL Vancouver Giants play-by-play broadcaster Joey Kenward:

"Hello. Hope your summer is going well.....

"I wanted to let you know that I am taking a new path in my career. I will be leaving the Vancouver Giants at the end of this month. I have accepted a new job to be a Vancouver Canucks play-by-play broadcaster and reporter at the Team 1040 radio station. I'll be doing all of the Canucks road broadcasts when the games are televised on Sportsnet.

"The last five years I have spent with the Giants have been amazing to say the least. They are a classy organization and to be a part of their Memorial Cup championship success over the past few years has been fantastic. While it's sad to leave such a great group of people, there's no question I'm looking forward to what I consider to be my dream job. Having a chance to broadcast the team I've grown up with is something I've always worked towards.

"Like I said earlier, I hope your summer is going well. I look forward to talking with you soon!!"

Joey is a super broadcaster and also a good friend of HockeyBuzz. This is a very well deserved promotion for Joey. The Canucks have made a great choice here!!!

Congratulations Joey, and I'll look forward to seeing you the first time you are in Philadelphia.

Congrats to Joey. I appreciated his WHL updates this past spring on HB. Nothing quite like having someone write for us who is actually there. I don't take sufficient time to follow the many teams that comprise the CHL, which is too bad because there are a lot of young guys making their upward moves and a lot of great hockey being played.

I've been a Giants pack holder for the past 3 seasons. They always show Joey on the big screen doing the pre-game analysis for the fans. He does a great job at this as well as his play by play coverage. I'll miss seeing him on the Giants big screen this season, but look forward to hearing him on the Canucks broadcasts. Good luck Joe!

Great News Scoop! Joey definitely will be the "next big thing" in NHL broadcasting. Hopefully Vancouver comes through Boston and Philly this year.

Congrats Joey! The Giants will miss you but their loss is the Nucks' gain. Congratulations on your promotion and best wishes.SYF
