The Fan 590 out of Toronto reported earlier today that the Blues have been approached by the Pittsburgh Penguins about the possibility of trading for winger Yvgeni Malkin. The Penguins are asking for the Blues' number four pick in Friday's draft, along with two or three prospects.

Los Angeles is also one of the teams in the mix for Malkin.

This may be just a pipe dream to the Blues' fans, but with the possibility of the Penguins not being able to re-sign Malkin if the give Hossa a big contract, plus the Blues' lack of scoring touch, I would make this deal in a heartbeat. The Blues are stockpiled on defenseman, so it would only make sense to trade the fourth pick in the draft to get a proven scorer in Malkin. The only question would be, do the Blues have enough room in the salary cap to retain Malkin after this season? This is the last year on Malkin's entry level contract, and it's expected he'll be asking a hefty price for a team that's willing to acquire his services.

If I get any more information on this, I'll report it immediately.
