So here we are with the NHL Awards on tonight (does anyone really care?) and most of the talk seems to be around the MVP, Goalie and Rookie.

If it was up to me, it would be Sid for MVP, Luongo for Goalie, and Staal for Rookie. We'll see how that pans out.

I'm not sure how much trade talk goes on at the awards. I'm torn on what I would like to happen. I wouldn't mind hearing about some GM's chatting and rumors of trades but it would also be nice for one night that the league just celebrates the game and it's best players. But the end of the day it's still a business so who knows.

Now the trade talk is starting to heat up and the one that won't go away is McCabe. Some fans are dying for this to happen. Ship him to Long Island and get something decent in return, free up cap space and sign whoever the want.

Lets be honest, I don't see it happening. Maybe it's just too good to be true but NYI would have to come up with a really good package in order for that to happen. It won't be the Leafs calling NYI.

So what would you do with $8-$10mil of cap space to spend?

Honestly, I don't know cause it depends what trades can be done as well. One of the biggest question marks is in net. Will Raycroft be that goalie he is expected to be and proven that the can be or will be just a $2mil a year goalie?

The back up position is one that is hard to figure out. Talk of Cujo is there but is that the step in the right direction? Can Cujo really push Raycroft enough and fill in for him when needed? This is what has me worried.

I really hope they push for Hartnell. This is a young guy with all the tools and grit that they need. I believe they will offer the Ryan Smyth camp quite the deal but I really think he will be a long shot.

Hartnell could be a key piece to the future of the Maple Leafs.

Cheers
z.
