And here we go...

So tonight is the first pre season game for the Leafs against the Oilers. It should be a good game and a good test for a few players. Here is the line up that was posted by Alec Brownscombe on his blog http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=9452

FORWARDS:
Darcy Tucker - Kyle Wellwood - Alexei Ponikarovsky
Jeremy Williams - Matt Stajan - Simon Gamache
Tony Salmelainen - Chad Kilger - Jiri Tlusty
Wade Belak - Kris Newbury - Ben Ondrus

DEFENSE:
Bryan McCabe - Carlo Colaiacovo
Tomas Kaberle - Bryan Muir
Jay Harrison - Derek Walser

GOALTENDER:
Justin Pogge

As reported, the Leafs will be using a different goalie for the first 4 games. I think that this is a very good idea as it gives the goalies a chance to play a full game and I think the coaching staff will be able to get a better read on them.

A lot of eyes will be on Gamache and Tlusty. With Bell out for a while, there is a roster spot open and it's up to them to make this squad. I think Gamache has the better chance (only due to age) and that Tlusty would benefit in either the OHL or AHL.

I know it's just a pre season game but I'm excited. Not just cause it's the Leafs but just for hockey to be back. These games are fun to watch as you get to see a few guys really fight for a roster spot.

It's a good time to be a hockey fan. I think we understand that it will never be as media heavy as say the NFL but it is by far one of the most exciting spots to watch and even though the fans like to rip on each other, we all just love the sport.

Cheers
z.
