A) He plays on the power play.
B) He plays on the top two lines.

It wasn't lack of effort although the 2nd period kind of was a sleep walk. There were a ton of chances, the system provided a lot of opportunity for the Flames to manage some goals. The real issue here is lack of finish and lack of skill.
Mathematically the Flames can still make the playoffs and if you read my blog you'll know that I have stated the Flames will tickle ...

As it was just announced several minutes ago that Mikael Backlund has signed a 1 year 1-way contract with the Flames with a Cap hit of $725,000. This is even less then Roman Horak, T.J Brodie and Derek Smith will make this year.
