Is This Leadership?

Posted Thursday | Comments 2
Trotz looked beaten, saying "We're going to have a mourning period for about an hour, and then we'll look forward to the next game." What? Is this the kind of response you expect from the guy who is supposed to shape the way his team feels and reacts to a loss like this? I don't think so. The Preds have not played well these past two games of the series and in doing...
Hockey players have an annual tradition where they grow out their beards when the playoffs roll around. No one is quite sure when the "playoff beard" first sprouted roots, but it's as entrenched in the game of hockey as sudden death overtimes and the two pad stack. Certain diehard fans take their admiration of their favorite players to the next level by mimicking their ...

Trotz and CO. Safe

Posted Friday | Comments 0
The Predators picked up the one year options today on the entire coaching staff of the Preds meaning that head coach Barry Trotz, assistants Brent Peterson, Peter Horachek and goaltending coach Mitch Korn will all be back with the club next season. Preds GM David Poile had this to say about Trotz: “Teams and ownership change coaches, and managers, for that matt...
As a fan of the Colorado Avalanche since they moved to Denver, it's easy to know why I hold a special place for Peter Forsberg. How can I forgot Forsberg missing the entire 01-02 season only to return and become arguably the best player in the playoffs? Then there's the magic that Forsberg captured along with Milan Hejduk in the 02-03 where he won the Hart Trophy and helpe...
Ok, a month or two ago, I was reading that Pete was going to play for his father's league back in Sweden...What happened? TSN.com is reporting that Ottawa and Vancouver are now in a "race" to pick up this injury-prone forward from his one year stint in Nashville after being dealt away by the Philadelphia Flyers. His career is winding down, and I honestly think that if h...

Got Your Gear?

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
Preds fans, do you have your fan-wear for the upcoming season? Much of Pred Nation grabbed their gear during the Save the Predators rally, when the pro shop at the Sommet Center was having a crazy-go-nuts sale. However, if you missed that event, you still have time to grab shirts and jerseys from various places around town. I needed to replace the Vokoun t-shirt I wo...

Foppa forced to play his hand??

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
There is an article in today’s Ottawa Sun (http://ottawasun.ca/Sports/Senators/2007/10/23/4597676-sun.html), which talks about how Foppa is getting close to making his decision and may be choosing between Ottawa and Colorado. While I won't speculate on which team he's likely to go to, I will say that this makes sense. Last week I talked to someone who told...
Let me first start by saying that this is my first blog, so if it sucks I apologize. I am a die hard Flyers fan, and am thrilled at the prospect of Peter Forsberg signing with the Flyers. Even at 70% I love watching Forsberg at work, and the excitement that I get personally from watching him step on the ice just about every other night is why I am excited about the possi...
What a game What game. Sabres Fab Five is not on: Thomas Vanek continues to dominate this opposition. One Goal and One Assist. That makes 6 goals in 4 games. Well on his way to the 50 Goal Campaign and leading this team back to the playoffs. The power play i was tough on them during the first game. Well so far they have been very good in the last couple games. ...
Peter Zezel's passing is a tragedy to the hockey world and all those who knew him, but it's also a realization to each individual that we all possess a beating heart, one that is capable of accomplishing many things--even changing the world, one person at a time. I've never met Zezel personally, but my good friend Bruce "Scoop" Cooper, who has worked in hockey for over ...

Flashback: The Ottawa Brawl

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Many fans will remember this game for a long time. This wasn’t just an ordinary game. The Sabres were in the mix of one of their best regular season performances of all time, a year in which they would win the Presidents Trophy. The Senators and Sabres have always had a rivalry, but this game was nastier than usual. Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson, two Sabre killer...
No matter what happens tomorrow night in Boston or Wednesday night in Buffalo, the Boston Bruins front office has work to do. You see, whether the Bruins win this series or not is kind of irrelevant. This team might have what it takes to get past these Sabres but probably not Sid the Kid and Pittsburgh, and certainly not Ovie's Capitals. At least not in 2010. But armed wit...
The Philadelphia Flyers are going to be the toughest opponents that the Montreal Canadiens have faced thus far in this year’s playoffs. That’s not only because Peter Laviolette’s 2010 squad is somewhat reminiscent of the old school Broad Street Bullies, but because they are a team that wins by out-working their opponents and doesn’t rely on raw talents like Ovechki...

It's All About Bob

Posted Friday | Comments 3
When netminder Sergei Bobrovsky was pegged the starter for the season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins, there was a faint hope in the minds of Flyers fans that they had finally found their true, number one goaltender. The young Russian goaltender has needless to say, come out of nowhere. Winning 28 games this season, and having a superb first half of the season (much...

Peter Harrold

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
As you might have heard thanks to Todd Cordell... The Devs have signed Peter Harrold. After seeing this I immediately searched Peter Harrold. I looked at the normal things like Stats, Bio, etc. After reading I am a fan of this signing. Harrold (if he plays) will be a great offensive-defenceman addition.

The Bruins lost a forward from every line this summer. During the salary cap era, teams are going to require immediate results from players. The Bruins may understand this better than any team in the league. They have let players walk into free agency, and dealt underachieving players for assets that will help the team in the long run. The most recent of these dealing, b...
Peter Laviolette vs. Paul Holmgren I wanted to give myself a few days to process what happened in Philadelphia before I started ranting and raving about the turn of events that transpired this past Monday morning. If you don’t already know, Peter Laviolette was relieved of his coaching duties just 3 games into the 2013-14 regular season. I don’t necessarily think hi...
Was this just a trade made out of necessity or is there more to it? The Leafs traded for Peter Holland and Nick Staubitz today in exchange for Jesse Blacker, a 7th round pick in 2014 (originally from Anaheim, acquired in the Steckel trade) and either a 2nd or 3rd round 2014 pick depending on Holland’s performance. Let’s break this down: First off, Staubitz is a s...
December 15 Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs showed what it takes to have a chance at beating a team like Chicago. Not sure what happened to the Leafs, perhaps they were angry and completely unsatisfied at the effort on Thursday in St. Louis and they should be, but they took Chicago's game and threw it right back at them. Remember what 1980 USA coach Herb ...
By Erik Caron By now it is well documented that GM Peter Chiarelli and the Bruins are living in cap hell and aren’t going to find an easy way out. Sure there are other teams who are having cap struggles of their own but no one seems to be feeling it quite like Peter Chiarelli and company. After signing Matt Bartkowski and Jordan Caron to new one year deals this past w...

Hurricane Watch

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
If you are not a Carolina Hurricanes fan, you likely view the Canes as another sad sack team struggling at the bottom of the standings. But, amidst all the trade rumors swirling around the Hurricanes these days, they have quietly put together an extended string of solid outings since the start of 2015 (9-3-3). Their latest effort was a hard-fought 5-4 win over the San Jo...
Many hockey fans, including myself, had written off the Canes playoff chances a while back and had started to put our attention elsewhere, looking at possible moves the Canes could make at the trade deadline and possibilities for the upcoming 2016 draft. Was highly sought after Eric Staal going or staying? Was Cam Ward a good choice for play-off bound teams seeking goa...
As the Carolina Hurricanes approach the 2016-17 season, there are still a number of questions unanswered regarding the upcoming season. It is expected to be a spirited training camp with some key positions up for grabs. With that in mind, the upcoming NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, September 16-20, will be a major opportunity for some of the exciting new talent ...
