Flip The Switch

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
Time to add my two cents into the play-off fray. I love the play-offs, and the addition of play-off pools has only heightened my enthusiasm for this time of year. (I have 7 play-off pools) I've spent the last few days being bombarded by "experts" picking play-off winners and analyzing every facet of every match up. Its a toss up whether a team is better off with all...

Wings Dismantle the Flames.

Posted Friday | Comments 0
I was listening to XM-204 tonight on my way home from work and the ice cap boys got me thinking about first round upsets. I think its safe to say after watching tonight game it looks like Calgary isn't going to be the team to knock off a top seed in this year Stanley Cup playoffs. Detroit as of late has been known for their early exits. Last season the Edmonton Oilers...
Ever Drink a nice ice cold glass of water? Now, ever drinks a plastic bottle of water with that distinct plasticy taste??? And don't even make me bring up the beer in the plastic bottle, Blasphemy! Distinct difference in my opinion and since this is my blog, all you get is my opinion. And since this is my blog, I get to make up words like plasticy. Now imagine ...

NHL on NBC (SHAMEFUL)

Posted Sunday | Comments 0
NHL on NBC Well I couldn't watch OT yesterday Buff/Ottawa on NBC and had to settle for crappy non Hi-Def TV on VS.. Bettman, you better start working harder on making this more of a main stream sport that us TRUE fans can watch without interruption! Also, get Mike "DOC" Emerick off the air when it comes to Detroit games. How can such an esteemed broadcaster with many...

Redwings could use Yashin

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
After signing Rafalski, Drake & Hasek, the wings are still lacking scoring for next season. This is where Alexei Yashin could help. Although, he is a selfish player, the Redwings are very thin in the scoring department. The top line of Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Holmstrom can not continue to carry the teams scoring on their back. I think Yashin would fill in well ...

Zetterberg a wing for life?

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
According to Sports Express, the Swedish sports daily. Forward Henrik Zetterberg wants to be a member of the Red Wings for the rest of his playing career. I say Ken Holland get the deal done. Zetterberg is one of the best players in the NHL today and he is only going to get better. The future captain is everything you want in a player. A two-way player with great ...

WHERE IS Mark Spizzirri?

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
His last blog was about Brian Rafalski and that was July 2. I know there is not a ton of news coming out of Detroit these days. But couldn't he find something to talk about, I thought he was the D's rep on hockeybuzz. HEY MARK, here are some topics you could blog about. Zetterberg saying he wants to be a Redwing for life, or maybe who is going to do the scorin...
We are begining to see the signs that Nicklas Kronwall is becoming the player we all hoped he'd be. He has posted 11 pts in the past 13 games. Playing very well in the defensive zone and getting second unit powerplay time. Looks like Kenny Holland got it right again. Keep it up Nick!

Hossa a Redwing?

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
I've been looking over Eklunds rumor page and it lists the Redwings as a team that could trade for Hossa. Although, I would love to see this happen. What would it cost the wings? Atlanta would want a Player with some talent. As a big time Wingnut, I would be afraid of losing some of the young talent the Redwings have. Players like Valtteri Filppula, Juri Hudler and N...
Okay, I've had it with this 1pt for losing in OT/Shoot out. Officially, there are only 6 teams with losing records in the NHL. This is a joke. The NHL point system must go. I understand that they wanted to do away with ties. But this OTL crap is out of hand. Gary Bettman and the rest of these idiots who think losing in OT/Shoot out is worth a point should be shot...
UPDATE - The Tennessean is reporting that Dan Ellis will make the start in net tonight for the Preds. Ellis has played well against the Wings and recently was in net for the 3-1 Preds win at the Joe. I will be mobile tonight at the Preds - Wings. I have not done that yet this year and I am looking forward to doing it. Follow along online or wit...
I just returned from the Sommet Center viewer night. An unexpected crowd of over 2000 viewed the game and evidently swamped the concession areas prompting a 30 minute "timeout" so they could reload. I'm sure the new ownership group was impressed and encouraged by this turn out as this seasons road to this point has been full of hills and valleys. I would love for the ...
With all the Dollars and cents the KHL offers,it makes no sense that the hockey world lost one of its future stars. Regardless of his talents, not a single player should have their life in jeopardy playing pro hockey. With all the hazards the game brings naturally, ( Concussions, puck movement, stick infractions, and skate blades) to fight for your life on the bench seems ins...
Well the eastern roster is out and the habs, thanks to their loyal fans have 4 players in the starting lineup (they would have had 6 if it was not for pens fans). Lets look at the 4 players the habs have in the all star game (cant argue with Malkin and sid for starters) # Pos Player GP G A P +/- PIM 79 D Andrei Markov 39 6 23 29 8 18 ...

The Writing is on the Wall

Posted Sunday | Comments 1
Part of me is a diehard Pens fan and I will cheer for them until the bitter end. That part won't let me throw in the towel until the final horn sounds. But...the other part...the rational one...tells me that this team is simply not good enough to make the playoffs. Last night's 4-3 loss to the Devils was a crusher. Tonight's loss to the Leafs may have been the na...
How many fans have to suffer at the fault of owners that just don't get it? Can any one name the owner of the Atlanta Thrashers? - Exactly! - Its actually a group (the Atlanta Spirit LLC) who is still fueding... In the meantime, Ilya K and the gang and the fans get to wallow in the mire while the Atlanta Spirit LLC figures it out. I'd never want to call for anyone's head,...

Buffalo

This is the first time I am posting a blog so forgive me if I offend anyone. First and foremost I am a rabid Sabres fan. I get anxious every summer waiting for Hockey to start again. I have been to HSBC to watch the the pre-season practices all the way to playoff games. Sadly those days are gone. Now the closest I can get is TV or WGR Radio online. BTW- WGR is the best...
We've reached the end of a decade, so it's time to consider who was the best championship team over the last ten years.  But since it's also the start of the 21st century, we can go one step further.  So, over the next few posts, we will be working our way towards naming the Team of the Millennium.  We've had 9 Stanley Cup champions, thanks to the 2005 lockout, but only...
In the last post, we covered round 1 of the Champions from the past decade. Here were the results: 2001 Colorado Avalanche defeated the 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins 2002 Detroit Redwings defeated the 2008 Detroit Redwings 2007 Anaheim Ducks defeated the 2003 NJ Devils 2006 Carolina Hurricanes defeated the 2004 Tampa Bay Lightning Round 2: 2001 Colorado...

Caps are OK!!

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Let me start this by saying, I am not a Capitals fan. I am also not a Red Wings fan. I am on the opposite side of the hockey world as a Penguins fan. I do also have respect for great hockey teams and a greater respect for great organizations, so while I don't like the Wings and Caps, I do respect them. The Red Wings have been a dominant team for years and will continue tha...
Realignment 2012 is happening. The board of Governors along with the GM's announced publicly that realignment would be sorted out before the new year and that those changes would be put into effect at the start of the 2012-2013 season. That's all fine and dandy... except for the fact that we have no clue which team will end up in which conference/division come next season....
It has yet not been confirmed but it will be within the next few days to the next week. But the Detroit Red Wings will be hosting the 2013 Winter Classic, and the Toronto Maple Leafs will be visiting. There will also be a HBO 24/7 Road To The Winter Classic special. There really hasn't been much to say other than what has been leaked but the Leafs GM Brain Burke tweeted sa...

Joey MacDonald: The New #2!

Posted Monday | Comments 0
It almost comes as no surprise really but Ty Conklin has been placed on waivers by the Detroit Red Wings. This is coming after Joey MacDonald shocked and stole the hearts of all those in Detroit. He also stole a roster spot as the number two goaltender from Ty. Jimmy Howard is finally back after missing the past 8 games with a broken finger, thus making it ma...

Here is more evidence that hockey players are the best shit-talkers in all of sports. While I believe that both sides need to make concessions in order to reach a fair deal, you have to give Ian White some credit for speaking his mind and not holding back. White's comments are blowing up Twitter (to the extent that hockey can blow up Twitter). I'd like to see a NHL rep...
That was a question recently asked by an associate of mine. Over the past few years the #Detroit Redwings have lost a considerable amount of talent (Nicklas Lidstrom, Brian Rafalski, Brad Stuart, Jiri Hudler and a few others) and haven't been able to replace those players. So the question must be asked.... "Has Ken Holland lost his mojo?" As a lifelong Detroit ...
As July 5th approaches, Don't expect the Detroit Redwings to be in on many of the available free agents. Why? Because, The Redwings already have a 20 players signed for next season and they still need to sign some of their own RFA's. Brendan Smith, Gustav Nyquist and Joakim Anderson still need contracts. These are players the Redwings want to keep in the fold. Sign...
Follow me on Twitter @DailyNHLGRIND Last year’s newly formed Atlantic division was headlined by the 2012-13 Eastern Conference Champion Boston Bruins and the finally-turned-east Detroit Red Wings. The Bruins did in fact lead the pack but trailing right behind was the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens. The Red Wings were able to inch into the playoffs l...
You can find me at https://twitter.com/DailyNHLGrind With training camp just weeks away, the amount of big name restricted free agents is seemingly a lot longer than years past. Even though award-winning players such as Ryan O’Reilly and PK Subban have already come to terms, the names highlighting the list of RFA’s this summer still without a contract are valuable t...
Follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DailyNHLGrind The Avalanche is turning a corner. Eklund and co broke some news for Detroit Red Wings fans near the end of the buzz cast today (8/14) First, Yzerman traded for Adam Erne. This one seems to be a head scratcher unless there is a player going out or that they plan to bury in GR. Erne still needs to sign a new deal, but Yzerman wouldn’t make the trade unless he was confident. This, to me, seems like he’s ...
