Stop the Handringing

Posted Sunday | Comments 0
Enough with the Handringing Rangers' Fans. Believe it or not guys we are winning 2 games to None, not the other way around. From what I've been hearing from my fellow Rangers fans over the past few days you'd think that the Thrashers ran the Blueshirts out of Atlanta. The reality is our team played the same game they have been playing over the past few months and the re...

Sabres 5, Rangers 2

Posted Thursday | Comments 1
I wish I could kick it back with some old school commentary, but my life schedule has not been kind this playoffs. While I've listened to 90% of the games on internet radio, I had to miss two whole games in the 1st round and I got back in time for the 3rd period, but I fell asleep shortly after Pominville's goal was credited. Hey, what can I say, they took awhile! So,...

Need To Hold Serve

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
When the puck drops a little past 7 pm tonight at Madison Square Garden the boys in blue will be looking to hold serve and send the series back to Buffalo all square at 2 games apiece. The first win against 6 losses this season against the Sabres should give a little boost in the confidence of the Rangers. They have played well the past 2 games, playing the style tha...

If no more moves . . .

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
What does Renney do if no more moves are made either via Free Agent signings or Trades? Hossa - Drury/Gomez - Jagr Straka - Drury/Gomez - Shanahan Avery - Cullen - Callahan Prucha - Betts - Hollweg/Orr Malik - Rosival Tyutin - Girardi Staal - Mara Strudwick/Pock I don't know, but I see this as a lineup Renney will put on the ice if the team starts t...
No, Im not an Islander fan. This is coming from a die-hard Rangers fan who knows an undeniable fact when he sees one. The Rangers came off a brilliant second half and playoffs last season and looking poised to make a Cup run. [img:left]http://ordinaryleastsquare.typepad.com/blueshirtbulletin/images/jagrgroin.jpg [/img]In the offseason they added Drury and Gomez and los...

More Rangers Ineptitude

Posted Monday | Comments 0
Through the first six games of the season, the Rangers had scored 13 goals while surrendering only 15, which is a stark contrast from the prior year, when in the same amount of contests, the team had scored 25 goals and given up 25. Just like 2006-07, the Rangers scored the same of goals - zero - in Game Seven, but this it was against Manny Fernandez, who had given up 10 g...
Take a look at the shots on goal from the previous 4 games. Keep in mind though, that the Rangers lost 3 out of 4 of these games, and their opponents earned 7 of the 8 possible points. Also keep in mind that the Rangers were outscored 14-7 in those games. NY Rangers 29 New Jersey 17 NY Rangers 32 Atlanta 22 NY Rangers 25 Toronto 16 NY Rangers 28 ...
They could not have made it more clear had they announced it in the middle of Times Square. It has been that apparant from the play of the Rangers during this three game road trip, and a trip is was, that this team cannot and will not play consistantly good hockey. They will find a way to lose ever game, even to lowly Edmonton. After coming off of a solid three game winnin...
I'm not surrounded by many hockey fans where I work...but somehow I managed to get the Pens/Rags game on the tube to help pass time on a slow day. Let me tell ya it was much better than watching baseball...and the fact that the Pens held off the Rangers after erasing a 3-1 deficit made it all the better. But I cannot ignore to mention the fact that a typical hit from b...
It was Chris Drury on Monday night. Two nights earlier it was Nikolai Zherdev. Since October 4th it has been Scott Gomez, Brandon Dubinsky, Markus Naslund, and Henrik Lundqvist among others. And while common sense would seem to dictate that teams without 35+ goal scorers are lost, the 9-2-1 Rangers are proving that scoring by committee can be just as effective. It is true ...
To nobody's surprise, Stephen Valiquette will start in goal. From early indications it looks as if Dan Fritsche will get the nod alongside Chris Drury and Markus Naslund. I don't really understand it - or the fact that Tom Renney sees so much need to keep shuffling the line combinations despite the relative success the Rangers have had. Traditional wisdom says that play...
In a recent blog post, James Mirtle used a formula to determine rankings for NHL defensemen. I'm not going to pretend like I understand it. It's not that I don't appreciate statistical analyses when it comes to hockey - it just takes me several reads to understand that the combination of something I love (hockey) and something I hated (math) can actually work. Anyway, ...

Rangers Need a Leader

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
Leadership is not about what you have done. It is about what you are doing. It is about instilling enough confidence in those around you to formidably face a challenge. It is about making responsible decisions and understanding when you have made a mistake. Most of all, however, it is about collectively teaching each other to learn from mistakes and come back even stro...
Sean Avery is an idiot. He has been alienating his teammates since he came into the league. He has made extremely insulting and hurtful comments. He has taken shots at Dion Phanuef, Quebec, Martin Broduer and allegedly Jason Blake in the last two seasons alone. He is a locker room cancer, the type of guy who destroys chemistry by creating conflict and division within a tea...

Time To Ax Renney

Posted Monday | Comments 0
Lets start with the oft overlooked fact: The failure of this team is not completely the fault of the head coach. In fact, very little of the blame should be placed on Tom Renney. Most of it falls on the shoulders of the GM, who shall remain nameless, and the high paid "stars" who have done anything but shine during the season of underachievement. Yes, Renney is meant to be...

To Be A Ranger Fan...

Posted Tuesday | Comments 0
...is tough. I am not talking about watching a team that fails to score, move the puck on the power play, or generate traffic in the slot (of the other team's zone). I am talking about the realization that the Rangers' current ownership and management structure forces its fans to watch a pathetic product night after night without any hope for changes. Changes need t...

???Really Sather???

Posted Monday | Comments 0
Dir Mr. Sather, I am further from a New York Rangers fan than Vancouverites in 1994, but fire Tom Renney. Really? Lets go back to that era when you quoted that if I had the spending abilities the New York Rangers had I would win the Stanley Cup every year. Well you did for seven years until the salary cap, and you sucked! You are probably against the salary ca...
For my inaugural blog I want to start things off with a radical headline such as: “Stanley Returning to Oil Country in 2010” Unfortunately a title that unbelievable would only appeal to fans living in a fantasy world and, since Edmonton doesn’t look much like middle earth last I checked, I’ve been struggling to think up a more realistic headline. “Why...

Ushering in the Quenney Era

Posted Monday | Comments 1
I'm sure some of you will be surprised that my first blog of the new NHL season is on the Edmonton Oilers. However, I feel it's completely warranted as this team is somewhat of an enigma to me. I'll explain: First of all, it's nice to see the Edmonton fans of this site get a regular blogger, something that was really lacking recently. And, regardless of Mr. Vetter's ...

Thing that make you Hmmmm

As last nights game vs the wild came to an end I sat there at rexall place pondering some questions!!!!!! Let's go back to the Nashville game. In a 1-1 game were Khabby is playing another great game and the oil are hanging in there in a tight game versus the always frustrating preds,Sam gagner is up against the boards and sends a pass to the middle of the ice and is pic...
Is Tom Renney the right man for the job? I don't believe so. He may be a good coach and a great teacher but at some point the Oilers will need someone who gets the most out of his players. I don't believe Renney does. If you look at the Chicago Blackhawks, one of the pivotal moves that made that team champions was firing Denis Savard and bringing in Joel Quenville....
Now I realize this will be posted on the Flames site, but this is a fascinating INSIDE look into the Edmonton Oilers from an agent who deals with the team on a regular basis. In another installment of Agents of Change, Ritch Winter takes an in depth look into the current predicament in Edmonton and whether or not Tom Renney is the right fit at Head Coach of the young team....
