With training camp 2007 about a month away lets take a look at some possible line combinations for the Sabres this upcoming season. 1. Vanek - Roy- Stafford 2. Pomminville- Connolly- Afinogenov 3. Hecht- Gaustad- Kotalik 4a. Paille- Ryan- Mair Extra: Peters (Size & Speed) [i]4b. Paille - Mair- Paetsch [/...
As of now, this is still unannounced by the Sharks org, but the following players seem to have been released from the NHL Training Camp: D-51-Walsh D-65-Joslin D-70-Evans G-33-Dakers F-28-Packard F-38-Valette F-40-Armstrong F-60-Raduns This would leave 18 forwards, 9 defenders, and 3 goaltenders in camp. Lines for today were (in no particular order): Mar...
The San Jose Sharks have found themselves in a tough place. A good tough place though. The Sharks roster still has some trimming to be done, however, who will stay and who will go? Obviously you can't begin the season with 28 centers just because they all looked good in the preseason. A complete team needs defense as well. You have your locked in guys such as K Mac, Carle,...
Well folks, here it is, the moment you have all been waiting for. It appears under Coach Sutter this will not be the same old Devils. It will not be a sit back and wait for the opponent to bring the game to us wait for a mistake and pounce Devils. It will be an in your face, up tempo , aggressive forecheck Devils. Now at first when Sutter said this at the begining of...

The Day After

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
I starting thinking about the roster decisions yesterday as I waited with extreme curiosity to what Ted Nolan's take on the decisions made would be. I, like many of you, did not understand why Hilbert was on the 2nd line. Or why the gaggle of dmen still stood as a gaggle of dmen on the NHL roster. And I began to see it from another angle: When a 2nd Line isn...

San Jose gets to 23 !

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
The Sharks have narrowed the roster down to 23, with some strategic use of the IR. Alexi Semenov, Brad Norton, and Thomas Plihal were put on IR to cut the 26 man squad to 23 for opening night. All 3 in my opinion should have been sent to Worcester simply because they just don't have the "IT" that is needed to crack this line-up. So as for the line up, it looks very solid, ...

Hurricanes version 2.0

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
I'm going to begin by saying I'm quite excited for the upcoming season and I really like the moves made by Jim Rutherford to retool the team and it's defence. The Canes have a new look, a few solid prospects, and this is the first season that I can remember where the primary news about the Hurricanes is not about the financial situation. That said, how different are the...

Logjam Schmogjam

Posted Thursday | Comments 0
Trader Cliff's opinion of the entry draft mirror's this neophytic blogger's feelings towards the constant worry over the logjam on the Leafs' blueline. There isn't one. Nope. Not at all. I think the reason for this perception stems from the fact that we've all been overwhelmed by the number of roster changes but a quick glance at the depth chart will alleviate our co...
I've been trying to figure out an angle to write about regarding the Philadelphia Flyers recently. All the other blogs have their pre-season predictions, training camp reports, and the "pumped up for the hockey season" blog. Trust me, I could write 15 pages, single-spaced, on how excited I am for hockey to be back - this is the stuff I live for. But when trying to find ...
-Bourque skated very well played with iggy and olli - Roy Skated this morning also skated with Nystrom and Lundmark - Boyd back up with Peters and Sutter - Warrener taking regular shift looks very fresh I think he is ready to go - Worked on the power play for 30 minuets with top players Moss was on the pp with Bertuzzi and Lanks. -Spifically power play time...

lineup as is.

If the season were to start tonight, with the players we currently have, how would you think the lineup would look? These are my personal thoughts. our "first" (and i use that term loosely, it qualifies as a second line for most teams) line Kulemin- Grabovski- poni last year i liked this line better than the one with hagman, so thats why i went with it. Plus hagman...
Since everyone's official team bloggers have begun posting this year's training camp rosters, I'm going to go ahead and post the Devils' roster since it hasn't been done yet. Goaltenders 30 - Martin Brodeur 31 - Jeff Frazee 35 - Yann Danis 40 - Mike McKenna 50 - Gerald Coleman 60 - Dave Caruso 70 - Jeff Lerg Defensemen 2 - Jay Leach 5 - Colin W...

Leafs Wheel of Fortune

Posted Monday | Comments 0
After a slew of 4 games in 4 nights and the first cut, the Leafs roster is beginning to take shape. After the Kessel trade, the top 6 becomes a little more crowded but not until November! With Ron Wilson’s comments indicating that Nazem Kadri is all but assured to go back to London not because of his play but because of his youth, we can now assume the Leafs will ...
When the Toronto Maple Leafs began the '09-10 season 0-7-1, it was determined that even though they were not as bad as their record indicated, the horror movie like start demonstrated they could not compete when points "mattered most". Lately, nearing the end of a 5th straight non-playoff year, the Leafs (as has been their season ending trend) have been on a tear; their 7...
Sure the majority of Leafs fans saw the value of a trade Tomas Kaberle, and dreamed of a top line starring countless players from around the league paired with Kessel and Bozak/Versteeg (depending on said players position), but alas, it wasn't to be, and Kaberle remains a Leaf for another year. Now, the question to be asked, where to the Leafs stand. In my eyes, the Lea...

So with the off-season signings by Buffalo, the general attacks around Hockeybuzz has been that Buffalo is going the (failed) route of the Rangers and other teams and is trying to "buy themselves a title". I decided to look into the team to prove how inaccurate that accusation is. Of the 20 players who have played for Buffalo this season, 14 of these players were d...

Player Review: Phil Kessel

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
It has been over 2 years since Kessel has been traded to the Blue & White, and ever since trade day (T-Day) Phil has been put under the spotlight by fans, media, and alike. I have no interest in evaluating the deal, as it has already been done to death, and the fact of the matter is that all players involved are either too young/inexperienced to play in the NHL as of ...

My all-time Red Wings roster

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
Yes, the NHL is locked out. However, I will still blog about the NHL and, more specifically, the Detroit Red Wings. Since they are not playing any games and I cannot complain about poor performance or how Brendan Smith is the “real deal”, I will discuss other topics relating to the Red Wings of the past. Hopefully the season will start soon with the recent 50/50 propos...
Everyone is talking about the Jamie Benn signing. The 5.25 million dollar contract that spans 5 years was a surprise bit of news during the game against the Blackhawks at the AAC on Thursday night. The ovation on the other hand, wasn't surprising at all. Benn isn't just an important player in terms of how the team performs on the ice, he is a figurehead for the Stars ...
If we look at the New York Rangers roster since the start of the season we have seen the likes of Ferriero, Bickel, Eminger, Newbury, Segal, and Kreider. All are now either riding the pine or the bus back to Connecticut. With all these move with the Rangers squad, I feel, has finally settled into a roster that Tortorella is confident with. The Rangers have been experimenti...

As the name suggests... Nash - Crosby - Stamkos Sharp - Toews - Giroux E. Staal - Getzlaf - Perry Richards - Bergeron - Carter Tavares Pietrangelo - Weber Seabrook - Keith Doughty - Subban Alzner - Letang Crawford - Price - Luongo (I say Crawford because he knows how to win on good teams and winning on good teams vs winning on bad teams is very different) ...
And so it begins. The predictions on who will be suiting up for the Toronto Maple Leafs on opening night in Montreal against the Habs. I know there are going to be quite a few of these articles being posted across the internet over the course of the next month so I figured I would get the jump on some of the other bloggers in the world and make my thoughts known before cam...
I am not talking about color of skin or race but there are some key building blocks. You have to have a guy from Sweden on there. It is a must. Chicago has more than one. We moved our only guy, Omark to the minors. Good goalies don't come from Regina, if they are born there, fine but they need to play minor league hockey in Quebec. We all know that. Chicago agai...
Canucks Pre-Season Wrap-up: My Opening Day Lineup With the final pre-season game in the books with a nice 5-0 win over former coach Alain Vigneault's New York Rangers everyone's attention will not turn toward the opening day lineup. It seems as if the team has settled in on the following roster, at least to start the season while Zach Kassian is suspende...

Buffalo Sabres

Believe it or not it is exciting to be a Sabre's fan. I have been all my hockey life and so much I named my daughter after the team back in 1999! It's exciting because for the first time since the drafting of Thomas Vanek we will get to pick hiiiiiigh in the draft with a chance of getting the number 1 pick in the draft. Right now it's hard to say who to pick or if to tr...
The Hurricanes are going to miss the playoffs again. This is less of a prediction and more of an inescapable reality at this point. One could spend days dissecting this team in an effort to understand why the Hurricanes have only made the playoffs once in the past 8 seasons but rather than sitting here and tossing blame about like the overzealous poo-flinging monkeys w...

Maple Leafs Off-Season 2014

Hello out there! This is my first blog and any feedback would be appreciated! Here goes.. 1: Trade Dion Phaneuf Look, I'll be the first one to admit he is by far the team's best defenseman, but if upper management is as adamant about the "culture change" that must take place, then #3 has to go. There may not be a better time than now to trade the captain of t...

As I discussed in my prior blog, the picture for the Blues defensive corps for 2014-15 is fairly clear with Cole, Prosser and Butler fighting to sort out the scraps unless there are injuries or trades. The forward picture is a lot more crowded and a lot less clear with likely only fourteen roster spots available. Some might argue there are nineteen NHL capable or soon to...
Update 1:18 pm Reports are that Butler, Lindbohm and Jaskin have been assigned to Chicago and Fabbri back to juniors. I am trying to research how Lindbohm can go as it was my understanding that his Finland contract only had an NHL roster out. More to come on that front. JR is saying that Lindbohm choose to go to Chicago over Finland because he was told that he was c...
Update 2: STL Post Distpatch's Tom Timmermann is reporting that the Blues signed Scottie Upshall today to a two-way deal and that the Blues are interested in a deal with Gomez (ugh). NOTE that this leaves the Blues with 14 forwards INCLUDING Berglund who by all accounts has not been placed on Injured Reserve as of yet but he will be. Infer what you will but this a...
Do I think the leafs will make the playoffs next year, no. That being said here is what I think the lineup could look like. Forwards: Komarov - Kadri - Soshnikov Nylander - Matthews - Van Riemsdyke Parenteau - Bozak - Brown Michalek - Laich - Greening Defense: Rielly - Marincin Zaitsev - Gardiner Hunwick - Carrick Extra - Corrado Goalies: Bernier Gustavs...
In the span of 24 hours, there have been plenty of cuts. On Wednesday September 28, the Jackets cut the seven players, and announced the injuries to two of the team's top prospects- 1. Last Stop -- Teal Town?

Posted Wednesday | Comments 0
I'll admit, I got a bit nervous as we moved toward the trade deadline, and Jerome Iginla was sitting there like low-hanging fruit, and just the kind the Sharks have enjoyed biting into in the past. It's hard not to notice how disproportionately San Jose has been used (or used itself?) as a way station for players either just past their prime, or a bit further along – ...

What does the team look like now....and moving forward...Staying focused on reality....which means realizing they are not in the Cup contention phase for two more years.....i am not saying they can't win it this year...but it would be an early surprise after just making the playoffs by a point. When the Oilers hired Peter Chiarelli, it reeked of desperation to the point where ownership thought that giving autonomy to someone who won a cup would guarantee a cup. They never did a background check nor looked as to why he may have been fired just said look there is a cup, he is perfect. His resume is that of talent degradation and he did just that again for Edmonton....
