Well done boys! Great news!
Well All Its #2 for the blogs we will now discuss why the Leafs actually need a Senior advisor! the Maple Leaf organization is one filled with Red tape, hurdles, obstacles and over protective micro manging higher managment. Richard Petty heads up one of the most successful brands in Canada. Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE). A brand which has its o...
Yeah, I know your all thinking another leaf line blog, but its summer I need something to do. Alright, in these hot, humid, brutal non-hockey days of August I thought it would be a good idea to post my predictions on our players stats for the upcoming season. I'd like to know what you guys think our players will get in stats. I guess this counts as my first blog, kind of. *NOTE*: I'm just going to predict everyone plays 82 games just to make it easier.......
Jiri Tlusty played his first National Hockey League game last night against the high octane, shake your boots and soil your pants Pittsburgh Crosby's. Jiri played well, he was fast on his feet and he was digging in the corners, which by the way resulted in a goal... off his rear end, we'll get to that later. He's also a smart hockey player, he keeps his head up and scopes ...
With the Leafs all but out of playoff contention, Interum GM Cliff Fletcher headed west to scout talent and a pair of back to backs this weekend that may force Leaf fans off the ledge, lets turn our focus to the 'rebuild'...It has been reported that GM Fletcher has "extra" money to buy-out any contracts he feels need discarded. When the term buy-out is mentioned shortly a...
Since the end of the season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, all the focus has been placed on restructuring management and the coaching staff. Now with Burke all but cemented as this team's eventual GM (a Burke/Wilson combo is the best possible scenario Leaf fans could have hoped for..imo), Fletcher needs to go into overdrive restructuring this roster. We can speculate on ...

Maple Leafs Draft Blog

Posted Friday | Comments 2
Well, here we go Leaf Nation. It's June 20, 2008 and suddenly we're collectively being hit with flashbacks of 1993. Fletch is back in charge of our beloved (cough) Maple Leafs and Cito Gaston is managing the Blue Jays. At the moment, the Toronto FC might just be the best franchise in town...omg, my world truly is upside down. However, we need not fear. The march bac...

Brian Burke?! Naw, he's Garbage.

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
Brian Burke. Surprise, eh? Everyone knew it would be coming for about a week now, and now what to expect? I was never a fan of Brian Burke. I think his draft record stinks, I hate that he supposedly does not like Europeans, and I think he doesn’t know how to manage the cap. But that’s just my worthless opinion ;) A look at his draft record could tell us exact...
Wow, what-a-loss. What an amazing team the Sharks are. Setoguchi is playing some great hockey, and I still can't believe the Bruins traded Thornton for what they did. I did have a feeling Patty Marleau would have a good night. A real winner they have in San Jose. I'm sure they went the extra mile to beat their former coach's first return to the silicon valley...
It's tough to say what the price of moving up in a draft like this one would be. Moving even a few spots in the top ten could be quite expensive. Garth Snow was demanding the Leafs pick along with two additional 2nd round picks(we ended up giving him a 2nd and 3rd) in last year's draft to move up two spots. This was the price in a draft not as strong as this one. With ...
These last few days have been interesting, especially in regards to what Brian Burke has said about Tomas Kaberle. In a very good interview with Steve Kouleas on the Score he said a few really key things that us Leafs fan were wondering about since Brian Burke took over. He tackled all the talk about him not liking Europeans which he said was completely not true, [i]...
It's that time of the year again, and Leafs fans head into the holiday break with a sour taste after an 8-2 OBLITERATION by the Dallas Stars. That was simply embarrassing. Losing that bad to a team that has had just as much difficulty as us, possibly even more! [img:left]http://blog.mlive.com/redwings_impact/2008/05/medium_turco15.JPG[/img]I find this curi...
Half the season is over, and the leafs are finally beginning to show their true colors. Burke isn't surprised, although he denies that he and his staff are quote "tanking," he says that these losses are just the growing pains of icing a young team. Growing pains that will deliver us a much needed 1st round pick. As always with rebuilding, and any city that has undergon...
It looks like after two weeks since the Leafs sent goaltending prospect, Justin Pogge, down to the minor leagues, they're gearing up to bring him back up to give him a prolonged stint in with the Buds. Things have not been right for Maple Leafs goaltender Vesa Toskala. After coming of a strong season he wasn't able to put it together at all - at times he cost the Maple ...
[img:left]http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/0201/nhl_g_nantropov_200.jpg[/img]The Leafs and Nik Antropov head into the All-star break in a pretty big slump. Good thing? Depends on what you think of tanking, but is it a bad thing? No. Today we are a lot closer to having a successful rebuild then we were a few short weeks into the season. A high 1st round pick in t...
A lot of Leafs fans after looking at what we grabbed on March 4th were disappointed, and thought Burke had failed in what he tried to do. What did he try to do though? Leading up to the deadline he said that he really liked Kaberle and that he would not want to trade him, yet the media still acted as if he was on the market. He said that Kubina would not be available fo...
In Goal it looks more and more that Gerber may be 1 and Toskala 1A and quite possibly expendable with a slew of decent goalies on the UFA list. Pogge is gone he sucks and hasn't really improved all that much in 3 years. On D the Leafs are solid with maybe one or two guy expendable to clear cap space ie Kubina and can be parlayed into a 1st round draft pick as well a ros...
Throughout much of this off-season, the bulk of the media-generated discussion surrounding the Maple Leafs rebuilding has focused on the solid moves of GM Brian Burke, and rightfully so. For the hard-core members of Leaf Nation, the internet blog discussions have covered a variety of areas, but when the discussion turns towards the Leafs young 'top six' potential for the ...
Why is it that media and the rest of the hockey world seems to consistently overlook Ian White? So far this year, he has helped his team put pucks in the net(16 Pts), helped his team keep pucks out of their own net ( 49 Blocked Shots, +11 ) , and most of all, he comes to work hard each and every game. (Which he averages 22:40 ToI\G.) To have 16 points and be a plus ...
The most underrated player currently in a Leaf Jersey would have to be #19 Joffrey Lupul. Effective in all areas of the ice, the Lupster (trying out the nickname) has managed to keep up over a point per game pace so far through ¼ of the regular season. His play thus far has been overshadowed by that of Phil Kessel, but in the end, some time out of the spot-light may have ...

Donald S Cherry

Posted Sunday | Comments 0
What a guy! Isn't he beautiful?! I have chosen to write my next blog about one of my favourite sports personalities of all time. Nothing irritates me more then people who constantly berate and chastise Don Cherry when they don't even know the guy. Off-screen, what does Don do? Spends his time helping the hockey community in every way he can. He visits hospitals...

The Leafs Off-season

Posted Saturday | Comments 2
Brian Burke sure has his fair share of work to do this coming off-season. Now currently owning the longest drought without a cup AND the only team that hasn't made the playoffs since the Lockout, fans are starting to get upset. Ownership doesn't have a problem, just as long as they keep selling tickets, and I think that gives Burke some leeway when it comes to this season....
With the 2012 NHL Entry Draft less than 2 weeks away i thought it would be a good time to post my first blog and look at what I think Brian Burke and the Toronto Maple Leafs should do to improve their team. In the last few months the Leafs have been linked to several players and prospects but none moreso than Rick Nash, Roberto Luongo and most recently both top prospects N...

D-Day - June 22,2012

I don't believe that Brian Burke and his management team have ever faced as important a time during his tenure as GM of the maple leafs as these next seven days. Tasked with improving his club enough to make the playoffs in the upcoming season, Now more than ever I believe Burke is willing to do whatever it takes to put the buds into the postseason. In addressing where thi...
The Leafs were one of the more active teams on the first day of free agency, as was expected with the buyout of Grabovski and the glut of cap space. As always, the market prices were inflated, which should be taken into consideration when evaluating the moves made. I was a fan of Grabo, and was looking towards a bounce back season from him since he would be returning to...
This comes from me watching a recent NHL Network replay of the Leafs @ Bruins Game 7 aka "game of the year".***I was crushed..... Wow, I just got those chills again. But, as Leafs fans, we saw it coming. We've seen it before, too many times.WAIT A MINUTE... Who in the world had the Leafs winning this series? Back to the game 7 loss. You could just sense it, see it, feel it...
Would you call them mistakes? Personally, I like Bernier's potential and Clarkson's play. Not a big fan of Bolland, he's injured a lot and reminds me of Kaleta (rodent pest on the ice). For the lost souls, I loved Frattin, would have molded into a great replacement for Kulemin (oh, he's gone for sure). As for Scrivens, I wish him the best. The main issue I have wit...

Kessel the Chemist

Posted Monday | Comments 0
Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs has consistently lead his team with one of, if not the highest points and goal totals since his tenure with the Leafs began. With this information alone you would be hard pressed to understand why then in a fan base so passionate about winning, many remain apprehensive in their support of this 26 year old goal scorer. From the ver...
Many websites and groups conduct mock re-drafts for certain years to see how the draft could have been if we knew how these young men (at the time) would have turned out. The Toronto Maple Leafs are always a hot topic when it comes to draft picks (or their lack of), and with having the 4th overall pick in 2016, let’s revisit some of the most notable draft years and th...
Gretzky age 23-26. Howe age 22-24, 27, 40 Jagr age 23, 26, 28, 33 Lemieux age 22, 23, 27, 29 Messier age 25, 26, 28 What are these ages? The ages in which these players had their highest point totals. I don't care what the accepted assumption is, forwards peak between 23-26 for points. Stamkos is 26. Not to say he can't have his best season next year, but do...
As it sits today, the Leafs are in last place and with the greatest chance (20%) of landing the first overall pick for the first time since 1985 (Wendel Clark). Auston Matthews grew up playing in Scottsdale, AZ watching the then Phoenix Coyotes play. Currently the Coyotes are sitting in a position likely to get the 10th overall pick. My question to you is, would the Leafs ...
First off let me make one thing clear – Mitchell Marner is amazing! Marner Magic is real folks and he will be a superstar in the NHL. Let us take that to the bank today and profit from the dividends for the next 15 years. People say “Oh he’s way too fancy he’ll get killed in the NHL.” To those people I say please watch the games. Watch the OHL final and ...
Ya I said it. We’re going to be a DYNASTY. Sure the Hawks had a few cups in a handful of years but in my life I’ve only witnessed two dynasties; The New England Patriots and Tiger Woods. People love to compare Toews and Kane to Matthews and Marner and why not? All were drafted high, the centers are both known to play a strong defensive game, and the wingers are both...
