What has gotten into Johan Holmqvist as of late? Back to back shutouts against the high-powered Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators? On the road? Maybe one can credit the addition of Kari Ramo into the equation. No longer can Holmer expect mediocrity in the form of Marc Denis to be competing for his job. Kari is young, hungry and wants it, something that Denis had n...

Downie returns

Posted Saturday | Comments 0
I was a big Downie fan, even though he did more stupid things than good things as a Flyer. Can't wait for tonights game to see if the Flyers can return to winning ways or are going to rip off another losing streak. A win against the Bolts would be big.

Flyers destroy Bolts 6-1

Posted Friday | Comments 0
What an amazing game it was tonight for the Flyers. Unbelievable. The Flyers scored three goals in the third period, as they put a beating on the Bolts 6-1 tonight. Going into this game, I didn't think that the Flyers were going to score six goals against Mike Smith. Obviously, I'm a huge Mike Smith fan, and I would love to see him in a Flyers uniform. Luckily for the Flye...
thought I would do a blog on some news I received. Last time I reported breaking news: well, let's not go there. Most of this news is not new, but it kind of adds to the drama. I have news on three teams: Calgary, Edmonton, and Tampa Bay. Edmonton Oilers I tweeted the info earlier. This much I know: the Oilers' names have been leaked in the NJ trade. Cogs, Penner, an...

Hope?

The Penguins are TOAST. I'm as big a fan as anyone...and I desperately want them to win Game 7 on Wednesday night...but my gut tells me this series is OVER. After watching them get outscored 12-4 and outplayed by almost the same amount in games 5 and 6, there is nothing I see that tells me this team will win game 7. Without Sid and Geno...with a rece...

Who Will Raise Their Game?

Posted Tuesday | Comments 2
Three of the four remaining playoff series are currently sitting at 2 games to none. Detroit, Philadelphia and Washington all find themselves in the uncomfortable position of having the NONE part of the expression. Judging by the way the playoffs have gone so far, none of these teams should be counted out simply because they are down by a couple of g...
The Refs Eric Engels wrote about the differences in officiating between the regular season and the playoffs. He made a good point about how the refs seemed to have put their whistles away during some of these playoff games. I know that some people have an issue with this...and rightfully so to some degree...but from my point of view...if the competition lev...
After a season which many observers would label as overachieving, the Bolts now find themselves in the unenviable forum of heightened expectations. Coming within one victory of the Stanley Cup Finals has many hockey fans in the Sunshine State envisioning a return to glory for Vinny and Co. While this is well within the realm of possibility, members of the Eastern Confere...
by Ian Cunningham [email protected] The Tampa Bay Lightning Training Camp is officially under way!! After a day full of physicals and off-ice assessments, the team will travel to the Brandon Ice Sports Forum for their typical on-ice sessions and Blue/White games. The on-ice workouts begin at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. As always, the practices an...
Ian Cunningham [email protected] September 22, 2011--The Tampa Bay Lightning are off to a slow start in the 2011 pre-season, dropping back-to-back decisions to the St. Louis Blues, 3-1 and 4-3. The two teams played a home and home set of games, with the latter taking place in Orlando's New Amway Center, home of the Orlando Magic. It was the first hockey game...
Ian Cunningham [email protected] The Tampa Bay Lightning trimmed their active roster down to 27 yesterday, sending 26 players packing in the process. This round of cuts sets up the difficult decision still remaining for Steve Yzerman and Co., with four more players set to be released. Thus, trimming the active roster down to the required 23 spots. The foll...
Ian Cunningham [email protected] Of note, forwards Mike Angelidis, Michel Ouellet, Alex Picard, Trevor Smith and J.T. Wyman, and defensemen Richard Petiot and Mike Vernace have all cleared waivers. These seven players are now assigned to the training camp of the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. With the remaining members of the Lightning's main camp fully settled i...
by Ian Cunningham [email protected] The Tampa Bay Lightning recorded a record of 6-7 in the month of November, dropping three spots to eleventh in the fifteen team Eastern Conference. In the process, Tampa surrendered eleven of a possible eighteen points available to Eastern Conference opponents, including six points to three teams that were below the Bolts i...
By Ian Cunningham [email protected] A 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the league’s lowest scoring team, the New York Islanders, has left the Lightning coaching staff shaking their heads in disbelief. Is this the same team that stymied opponents routinely down the stretch and in the post-season last year? While the personnel have not turned over to any great d...
The Devils (14-13-1) visit the Bolts (12-15-2), who are reeling in a bad way. This game should be an excellent opportunity for the Devs to get 2 points in regulation for the first time since Nov. 25. The last time these 2 met, the Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead, I was there and boy was it impressive! The last 10 minutes of the game however were not, as the Devils very nea...
NJD (14-13-1) @ TBL (12-15-2) St. Pete Times Forum 7pm VS/TSN2 Hedberg (300th start of his career!) vs Roloson (side note, Devils have acquired D Kurtis Foster, and G prospect Timo Pielmeier for C Pelley, D Fraser and a 7th round pick in 2012. A great trade for guys who have been placed on waivers twice, getting a solid blueline shot and 40+ point scorer in Foster as...
Last night, the Winnipeg Jets lost another game to Steve Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2. An all too familiar result for the Jets and their fans as they continue to struggle out of the gates this season. This loss however, was especially frustrating as the Jets out-shot outhit and essentially outplayed the Bolts for most of the game. So who's to blame for this unl...
Last season, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche were near identical in almost every aspect. They both had a top three pick at the 2013 NHL draft, Colorado selecting Nathan MacKinnon from the Halifax Mooseheads number one overall and Tampa Bay taking Jonathan Droiun (MacKinnon’s line mate) also from the Halifax Mooseheads. Both teams went out and made a tr...
