Hey, I'm just another armchair GM and fan, but if I'm Calgary's Jay Feaster, I'm really looking to bulk up for a serious playoff push. With the way Calgary have turned their season around since the departure of Darryl Sutter, I suspect Calgary will squeak into the playoffs.
And, I’d hate to be the guy to say “anything can happen in the playoffs”, but… ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. So, here’re my Trade Deadline suggestions for Jay Feaster and the Calgary Flames.
To CGY: Chris Phillips ($3.5)
To OTT: Matt Stajan ($3.5), Brendan Mikkelson ($0.687), 2012 2nd Rd Pick
- even though Matt Stajan has a limited NTC, I can’t imagine he wouldn’t waive it to go play near his home and to a team that can actually find use for him. He hasn’t worked out in Calgary and it makes sense for Feaster to over pay to get rid of the contract. Phillips likely won’t re-sign in OTT, so CGY also gets the benefit of a FA in the summer. Along with Stajan, Mikkelson fills the blueline for OTT in the meantime and is an RFA at season’s end. The 2nd Rd Pick is a kind gesture to Eugene Melnyk for taking Stajan’s contract off CGY’s books.
To CGY: Vincent Lecavilier ($7.7)
To TB: Rene Bourque ($3.3), Steve Staios ($2.7), 1st Rd Pick
- this would certainly be a block-buster trade off all sorts, and its impossible to say if Vinny would waive his NTC to go to CGY or not. However, because of his past relationship with Jay Feaster, who’s to say it couldn’t happen? Bourque is a two-way weapon for TB and though he’s a gamble because of inconsistency, it’s his chance to stick with a team who will most likely win a cup in the next few years if they finally get some goal-tending. Staios is obviously a cap dump which would be dumped in TB in the off-season after he gives them some depth on the blue-line for playoffs.
To CGY:
Tanguay – Lecavilier – Iginla
Glencross – Jokinen – Moss
Hagman – Backlund – Jackman
Bouma – Morrison – Kostopolous
Regehr – J-Bou
Giordano – Phillips
Sarich - Pardy
