Hey! I’m Justen and yes, I spelled my username wrong haha. I’ve been visiting HockeyBuzz.com for years now. Mostly to look for the newest GARTH blog to get my Sabres fix, and/or rummaging through the forums. I love talking Sabres hockey and I’m here to do just that.
After a Dismal 1st half of the year due to a Tallinder-less Tyler Myers, a Lydman-less Steve Montador(I’ll leave the inconsistent Sekera and Butler out of this) and a struggling Ryan Miller, the blue and gold were on the outside looking in, like a thief peeking through a bank window, planning how to get into the vault. That vault being the playoffs. The Sabres catapulted out of the All-Star break and posted a 20-8-5 record(4th best in the league since the break). A big chunk of that coming during the Pegula era. Buffalo went on to a 16-4-4 record for a league best 36 points from Pegula Day (Feb. 22nd) to the end of the regular season. Is this due to renewed hope from an owner that wants to win or a Sabres team that found their game? I say both and that’s a dangerous combination. The Eastern conference better re-adjust their rear view mirrors – the Sabres are coming.
This 2011-2012 season is one I’m looking forward to like never before. Not because Darcy has daddy Warbucks on his side and the assets he could bring in; but because what this team already has in place. The future for this team is as sharp as the swords on their logo. A Jack Adams award winning coach, Vezina winning goalie, NHL Rookie of the Year, 3 CONSECUTIVE AHL Rookies of the Year(Gerbe, Ennis, Luke Adam) and AHL Defenseman of the Year in Marc-Andre Gragnani.
The Sabres tickled the twine 245 times in 10-11. Good for 4th in the eastern conference. Not bad for a team without their number one center in Derek Roy who was on pace for a career best in points averaging a point a game(35gp, 35p) until, he was lost for the season due to a leg injury. With a returning Derek Roy and Drew Stafford, a Thomas Vanek that’s playing for his 7 mil per, emerging young guns in Ennis, Gerbe, Gragnani and Weber and a whole bunch of cap space for Mr. Regier to play with; a Stanley Cup doesn’t look too far off. 2011-2012?
Best of luck with your new blog !!
