What seems like forever ago, I attempted to write a blog on here, and due to lack of time/energy/patience/feedback, I got quickly discouraged. That said, I am going to try this again, this time with a great deal more time and patience. I spend a lot of time reading these things and one thing that seems to be a common theme, most people are fans of the team that they are blogging, which makes perfect sense. The trouble that seems to arise more often than not is the personal bias factor in the writing. I really want to embrace an opportunity to become some kind of journalist some day, and I think I would be doing myself a huge favor by finding a team that I would otherwise have little interest in to maybe be a bit more objective.
My favorite team since childhood has been the Toronto Maple Leafs. They have been the gold standard in my eyes for professional hockey, which all things considered is sad. At 30 years old, the first third of my life, they were owned and operated by a buffoon (which is actually a compliment to this man), they had some bright spots in the middle, and have been fair to poor ever since. Most of what they do fails. I have to believe that is not intentional, but never the less it still always works out that way.
My least favorite team is the Boston Bruins. This one carries some obvious reasoning with it. They are big, they are skilled, they win games, they are in the northeast division, they are most of what the Toronto Maple Leafs are not, but only wish to be. Living in Eastern NY, being close to the fanbase, I also find them to be somewhat insufferable. Yes, you have won several league titles within a close period of time. This somehow erases the years of almost total incompetence that these sports teams exhibited. Pre 2000 Boston/New England was lovable losers, Post 2000 Boston/New England is horrible winners. If you ever have any doubt in your mind how good they are, just spend 15 minutes near a New England sports fan, they will tell you.
This will be the last two paragraphs I write about either of these teams. I am not objective on them, could not fairly represent either one because of some obvious personal bias, and it would not be fair to either team or anybody that may read this to write on them.
I am thinking the Carolina Hurricanes would be a good team to follow as I don't live anywhere near them, am only familiar with a few players, and probably don't have anything useful to say about them. They also Play the Leafs Tuesday night, and that may be a good time to start.
Hopefully this goes well as I would really like to succeed at this. If you enjoy my writing thank you, if not, I don't particularly care too much. Nice meeting everybody.
NOTE: The above comments about Boston Bruins fans was more of a joke than anything, please don't take offense. I have a very sarcastic sense of humor which may come across nasty, Boston is a lovely city with wonderful people.
