Every team finds itself with a few injuries over the course of a seaon, maybe 6 or 7, with most not missing a serious amount of action. There is always that one team every year though that seems to get the injury bug, and this year it is none other than the Philadelphia Flyers. The following is a list of players who have gone down so far this season for the Flyers (including carry-over injuries):
1. Ian Laperriere (concussion symptoms), LTIR, will never play hockey again.*
2. Blair Betts (knee) LTIR, most likely will not play again. *
3. Chris Pronger (eye) out 2 weeks
4. James vanRiemsdyk (upper body) out about 2 weeks
5. Jaromir Jagr (groin) missed 4 total games
6. Chris Pronger (leg) out 4 weeks**
7. Chris Pronger (eye concussion) indefinitely**
8. Claude Giroux (concussion) out indefinitely*
9. Brayden Schenn (concussion) day-to-day*
10. Andreas Lilja (high ankle sprain) 4-6 weeks, LTIR*
11. Erik Gustafsson (wrist surgery) out on LTIR*
*current
** Pronger has both injuries currently
These injuries are devastating to the team's depth, which was not very great before the season started, considering the trades of Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Kris Versteeg, and the walking away of Ville Leino. The spots these injuries leave open have to be filled (unless you're the Calgary Flames
http://bleacherreport.com...yl-sutter-should-be-fired ). Guys have to step up, and so far, thankfully, they have. Scott Hartnell and Jaromir Jagr still found the point tally against Washington with rookie Sean Couturier, who is the interim Center on that #1 line. Kimmo Timonen has spewed all his efforts out on the ice. This is all great, but it will not be enough given all these injuries. Danny Briere needs to start scoring $6+ million/yr. worth of points. Andrej Meszaros, Matt Carle, and Braydon Coburn need to step up their game as well. This will not be easy folks. Laviolette will have to give it some time, but cannot give it all the time in the world. Assuming most of these injuries are long-term each teammate must step up and do more. Currently atop the Eastern Conference, the Flyers must be prepared to play a long time without Claude Giroux, who scored 39 points in the 28 games he's played this year. These points are virtually disappearing out of thin air unless other players step up. All fans can do is hope that these injuries do not linger and do not affect the team going into the playoffs.
