Many positives can be taken from Minnesota's rise to the top of the league. Among those is the emergence of rookie blueliner Marco Scandella. Scandella is playing his first full season as a member of the Wild after spending time between the Wild and Houston (AHL) in the previous season.
The Montreal native was selected by the Wild in the second round (55th overall) of the 2008 Entry Draft. That draft is known for providing a large number of promising defensemen and Scandella is proving to be no different. Scandella boasts an ideal frame and tremendous mobility; making him effective in one-on-one situations. He joins a young group of players on the backend, including Justin Faulk and Jared Spurgeon.
Production (0-6-6) is not the name of his game as he focuses more on shutting-down the opposition while on the ice. He has skated to a respectable -1 through the first 28 games of the season, though that should be expected. He currently ranks fifth in ice time on the team, averaging almost 21 minutes of ice time per game.
Scandella appears as though he will definitely be a key part of the Wild moving forward.
