I'd say the Wild are starting to come full circle. After weeks of questioning the team chemistry and increasingly mounting question marks in coach Yeo, and this team is starting to look like what Wild fans were expecting with the off season acquisitions of Parise and Suter along with a bevy of young talented players making their mark in a shortened season.
Backstrom had another great performance save the second goal Detroit scored in garbage time, a bit of that was on the Wild defense as well. Either way, the Wild have now won 4 straight(a new season high) and the last 2 coming on the road, both in venues the Wild have not won a regulation game in, in a combined 24 games. Winners of 11 of their last 15 and scoring has been elevated to 3 or more goals in 8 of those 15 and 4 or more goals in the last 4 games consecutively which includes 5 and 6 goals in 2 of them.
It seems obvious to this Wild fan that the worm is turning and the chemistry of this team is finally starting to look more like simple arithmetic rather than advanced astro physics. Scoring continues from all over the ice and by secondary lines and players which is making all the difference in the world right now.
Still a long row to hoe for this squad, but confidence is brewing and brimming, some proof of that was hinted at when Pierre McGuire quoted Zenon Konopka when he asked him what the difference is between last nights game vs Detroit and the earlier match up with them, Konopka said, "Last game we came in trying to win, this time we expect to win". This team should have no problem staying competitive against even the toughest teams through the rest of the schedule.
A healthy team is what every team aspires to be and this season the Wild are the poster child for healthy teams. Seems like eons from a year ago when the Wild were one of the most injured teams in the NHL dressing something like 50+ different players.
Well knock on wood Wild fans, let's hope this picture of health and wealth continues on towards and beyond the playoffs!
Go Wild!
