What makes a good captain? Is a good captain your best player offensively or is a good captain the heart and soul of the team? You decide. Anaheim Ducks-Ryan Getzlaf Ryan Getzlaf was drafted by the Ducks 1st round (19th overall) in the 2003 entry draft. He was named captain by the team prior too the 2010-2011 season. Despite a horrible 2011-2012 season when he had 57 points in 82 games.His lowest total since his rookie year in 2004-05 when he finished with 38 points. Watching him play if he is not on his game the team is not doing well. My rating for Ryan Getzlaf as a captain is 9/10. Boston Bruins- Zdeno Chara What makes Zdeno Chara a good defender? Maybe its his sheer size of 6'9 225 the tallest player in the NHL. Chara was drafted in the third round (56th overall) By the NY islanders and has played for three different teams. Not known for his offensive game his highest total was 51 points in 80 games in the 2011-2012 season. He has been nominated for the Norris trophy as the leagues best defensemen three times winning once in 2009. He also won the Mark Messier leadership award in 2011. Can the team win without him? Sure. But that doesn't mean he's not the heart and soul. My rating 9.5/10.rn
