Washington Capitals Draft

When the Capitals lost in the first round to the New York Rangers in 7 games in the first round, the Capitals knew they had work to do in the Draft. Their biggest need is a Defensemen. Their power play was ranked 4th in the NHL last year. Also, they signed Braden Holtby to a two year extension during the season, so they are good in those areas.
With the 23rd overall pick they selected Andre Burakovsky, the Left Winger from Sweden. He shoots left and is a very talented player on offense. He has very good speed which he uses to his advantage.
Some things he need to work on: He needs to improve his defense game, stay more consistent, and become stronger. He will get stronger over time though.
His father, Robert, was selected in 1985 with the 217th by the New York Rangers. He ended up playing 23 games for the Ottawa Senators during the 1993-1994 season.
With the 53rd overall pick they got Defensemen, Madison Bowey. He had 12 goals and 18 assists in 69 games. He was viewed as on of the best Defensive skater in the draft. He uses his speed and agility really well.
Some things he needs to work on: His mental aspect needs to improve a little. His positioning needs some seasoning as well.
He played through a broken finger, which he later had surgery on. He is very tough.
Washington sends their 84th, 114th and 127th picks to Winnipeg in exchange for the 61st pick. They selected Zachary Sanford, Center/Left Winger from the Islanders hockey club, EJCL.
The 144th pick was used on Blake Heinrich, Defensemen.
With the 174th pick the Capitals select Brian Pinho, Center.
With the Capitals final selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft the Capitals select Tyler Lewington, Defensmen.
