Twitter:TheDailyLeafHB: Recently, there has been some rumors of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers engaging in trade negotiations involving a Jake Gardiner for David Perron swap. This trade definitely makes sense for the Leafs, Perron (26 years old) is a young left winger who can play all different aspects of the game. Last year, with the Oilers he scored 28 goals, had 29 assists, and 57 points with a rattled Oilers squad who finished 28th in the season last year. Jake Gardiner is a very talented defender, but he is still looking to live up to his potential.Let's say the trade does get done imagine these to be the Leafs lines. Lupul-Kadri-Kessel, JVR-Bozak-Perron (Or Clarkson if Perron chooses to remain at left wing), Komarov-Holland-Clarkson, Frattin-Carrick-Santorelli. Not a bad lineup huh? For the Oilers, they get a young stud in Jake Gardiner who has tons of potential to become good and finished last season with 10 goals, 21 assists, and 31 points. The Leafs would lose a pretty good defender who would most likely succeed in Edmonton but could fill the hole by making another trade or signing a free agent when the season finishes. Perron is a two way player and would definitely add a boost to either left or right wing if he were traded. He played pretty well with a horrendous Oilers squad last year, imagine what he could do for the Leafs! If everyone on the Leafs and Perron repeated their stats from last season this season, Perron would finish 3rd in scoring (ahead of Nazem Kadri, Joffrey Lupul, and Tyler Bozak) and he'd finish 3rd in points. Not bad eh? He's the type of player that would help the Leafs make a return to the playoffs and he had a very successful year as an Oiler playing with Mark Arcobello (I assume) which is incredible! If he were to play with Leafs stars JVR and Bozak, he'd be even better. I think this trade definitely makes sense for the Leafs at the moment, what do you guys think about a Perron-Gardiner trade, leave your opinions in the comment section below!
