The Toronto Maple Leafs made a splash early by sigining Jason Blake....Good Move...Yes! But does it help the Maple Leafs operating style?.....No... or not really. Once again Maple Leaf's GM John Ferguson is trying to build his team around Sundin and it is pretty obvious why they went after Blake: to continue their efforts to complement Sundin in the lineup. Even though Sundin is still good, he is no superstar (the stats are there, just look at this article from TSN.ca:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/new...ID=213374&hubname=nhl) anymore and this type of team building and management(again refer to the article, the stats are there) has not worked for them, if it did it would have won them a Stanley Cup or took them to the finals or at the very least gave them a consistent playoff berth. This team has not been not even been passed the 2nd Round of the playoffs under this system and has not even been in the playoffs since 2004 when they were murdered in the 2nd Round by the Flyers. Even the addition of one of my favorite Islanders ever Jason Blake will not help them since they still make Sundin the pinnacle of their lineup. HELLO!!! Can't they see that this system of building their team around Sundin has not worked and will never work...isnt it time they tried something else like try to build a core that has nothing to do with Sundin? My opinion...get rid of Sundin and everyone and rebuild because they are going no where with this system.
