Bruins Trade Pastrnak to Winnipeg

David Pastrnak, the 2014 Boston Bruins first-round draft pick posted his first career 2-goal game on January 10 against the Philadelphia Flyers. In fact, he came very close to scoring a hat-trick on an empty net chance. Nontheless, the 18-year old rookie winger, who was recently recalled again from Providence, has given the Bruins a much needed spark. Playing on the first line alongside David Krejci and Brad Marchand, Pastrnak has helped extend the Bruins win streak to three games. The Bruins haven't pulled such a thing off since before Thanksgiving. Last week, after sitting on the outside looking in at Eastern Conference playoff teams, the Bruins who now have 50 points on the season, are settling in more comfortably among post-season contenders again.
Following the game, Coach Claude Julien expressed that he liked what he saw from the young player. "Pastrnak has shown a real good ability to play the game at both ends of the ice. It was nice to see him get his first goal and obviously, the second goal as well." Meanwhile, back in Boston, GM Peter Chiarelli finalized a deal with the Winnipeg Jets that sent defenseman Jay Harrison, centerman Jim Slater, minor leaguer Ralfs Freibergs, three hockey pucks, and two sticks to Boston in exchange for Pastrnak.
Chiarelli told the media that he had been in discussions with the Jets for some time about a possible move. He is aware of the fact that he has now dealt away three players drafted in the first round within the past five years or so, but he is confident that his decision will serve the best interests of the Bruins over the long term and he urged fans to be patient. One of Chiarelli's front office point men defended the move. "Yes, Tyler Seguin and Phil Kessel have 26 and 19 goals respectively this season…and next season, Pastrnak will likely have at least 25 goals with the Jets, but I really like what Slater, Harrison, and Freibergs can bring to this Bruins organization. I mean, already they have four goals and 7 points combined so far this season. I think once they get here and fit into our system, they'll really light it up."
