The Bruins looked like they could start making a push late in the season to get out of the wildcard playoff spot last month. After last night though, it seems that the Bruins are going nowhere but downhill. The Bruins are losers of six straight and if the Panthers win tonight, would see themselves out of a playoff spot. The road doesn’t get any easier for Boston either. Their next two games are against the Blackhawks and Canucks, two teams currently with a spot in the Western Conference playoffs. Star center, David Krejci also seemed to have picked up an injury against the Blues, but will travel will the team to Chicago. The Bruins are disappointing after a President’s Trophy winning season. Apparently there could be a full front office change if this Bruins team misses the playoffs and it might be for the better. Peter Chiarelli is definitely on the hot seat right now and he needs to make this team better, fast. He hasn’t needed to make any major changes to his “core” in hard times but desperate times call for desperate measures. Loui Eriksson and Dennis Seidenberg are two names that have been thrown around in trade rumors. With an injury to defenseman Kevan Miller that will keep him out for the season, Chiarelli may be a bit more hesitant to move Seidenberg. Seidenberg has a no trade clause but has made it clear that if the Bruins want to move him, he’ll wave it. The Bruins need to find upgrades on many different positions, right wing, defense, and backup goaltender. They’ve become lost since letting now Islanders goaltender Chad Johnson go. Without a strong backup the Bruins have needed to rely on Rask almost every game, wearing him out a bit. They even tried 2012 first round draft pick, Malcom Subban…who was pulled last night against the Blues after allowing three goals on three shots. Earlier today, Subban was called down and center Ryan Spooner was called up who has been looked at by many fans to be one of the future stars of this team. Even with call-ups from AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, the Bruins need an established NHL player who can help this team immediately. Chiarelli isn’t known to make an big trades at the deadline, just little depth moves with players who don’t play much. The deadline is nearing and now is the time for him to make a big move, or moves. Malcom Subban is one of the top goalie prospects and some believe the Bruins were showcasing him yesterday. Connecticut native, Cam Atkinson’s name has recently come up in trade rumors with the Bruins and personally, I think it’s their best option. Chris Stewart, a big power forward who isn’t even good enough to play in Buffalo, has been the most talked about trade rumor with the Bruins…great, right? One thing’s for sure, is that there will be some major changes to the Bruins lineup soon and if not they’ll be changes in leadership.
