Could the Leafs take advantage of these buyouts?
Yes, and they should.
They should do what they did with Winnik and Santorelli. Sign players to a short-term deal and flip them for picks and prospects at the deadline to teams looking for more depth going into the playoffs.
The Leafs have the roster space and cap space to do this with all 3 players I've listed above.
A team like Toronto will attract players looking for a bounce-back year. Toronto provides a big market city, quality ice-time, and money.
It will be an exciting day tomorrow at free agency.
