The Habs finished off the season looking like they need a major overhaul and bringing in some HUGE pieces.
Let's take a step back and look at what we got(these are the positions they can play at):
LW: Higgins, Plekanec, A.Kostitsyn, S.Kostitsyn, Begin
C: Koivu, Higgins, Plekanec, Bonk, Begin, Lapierre, Chipchura, Grabovski,
R. White, Maxwell
RW: Kovalev, Ryder, Latendresse, A.Kostitsyn, Perezhogin, Johnson
D'Agostini, Ferland, Milroy
D : Markov, Souray, Komisarek, Bouillon , Dandenault, Gorges, Streit
Valentenko, Sanford, O'Byrne, Fischer, Emelin
G : Huet, Halak, Danis, Price
Needs: We need a true #1 Center that can take the pressure off Koivu and then Koivu can be moved down to center the 2nd line and we can keep the Kid line together for the 3rd and have a very good 4th line. We could also use a LW as that seems to be one of the positions where we don't have much depth.
Wants: We want a power forward, preferably a C or a LW or both if we can.
What we got: We have tremendous potential in nets and at the blueline and are only a player or 2 short up front. We have some very good youth coming up and all they need is a chance to prove themselves and that will not happen if we go out and get too many players.
We have all been complaining and screaming for the Habs to play their youth, well guess what, this is the perfect opportunity to do it. In a cap world this is even better as the kids who play well can make the team and get a spot and not cost us very much. Leaving us with a lot of cap room to truly get an impact player(s) to fill in the gaps.
We aren't in as bad of a shape as some people think.
I for one look forward to the youth movement.
