The new owner wants to change the team culture and is off to a running start in firing former GM Ron Francis. Bill Peters is gone to Calgary and Rod Brind'Amore and Don Waddell have been installed as the new coach and GM. Although as a hockey fan, I feel Francis did a great job building a solid foundation of defensive prospects, ie: Fleury, Bean, Hanifin and offensive prospects in Gauthier and Necas, he didn't do enough placing a competitive team on the ice. Questionable signings in Darling and Kruger, and a good signing in Williams proved not to be a recipe for playoff success, again.
Other than Aho, TT, Slavin, and Jordan Staal, the Skinner and Faulk's of the team struggled mightily throughout the season. So are changes coming? I hope so as promised by Dundon. First off I can't see Ryan, Nordstrom or Stempniak being resigned. The NHL is a speed game nowadays and none of these guys provided that. Scoring is needed also, so more of an argument that these three didn't provide enough of.
Skinner, Rask and Faulk will be presumably shopped in trade talks. If the right return is given, one or all three may be wearing different jerseys next year. What to do with goaltending situation ? Since there is slim pickings on the free agent scene, your guess is as good as mine. I can only hope Wadell and Dundon can entice a few good free agents to come and play here in Carolina. Mix that with the luck of drawing the #2 pick and more playing time ( the Vegas example) you have to be optimistic.
Only time will tell, but a change was needed in Carolina. Dundon will have his work cut out for him, but its time to be aggressive and place a hungry & competitive team on the ice. What to do you see the team looking like in 2018-19.......
I would be very surprised if Ryan isn't resigned. Good fourth line center, also decent on the penalty kill. Although letting him walk would mean more cap space... PDG and TVR should also be resigned. A Rask trade would be great and one of the few options, especially if Ryan stays. Trading Skinner would be bad imho, he was great the season before and he is one of the few really offensively talented scorers on the team. One top six forward can put the team below into the play offs (JVR? or through trading Rask high pick):AhoLindholmTeravainenSvechnikovStaalSkinnerMcGinnRaskWilliamsMartinookRyan/RoyZykovPDGSlavinPesceHanifinFaulkFleuryTVRMcKeownHalak/TradeDarling

I guess not allowed :( Anyways 4 great lines and awesome defense. Only goaltending is uncertain
I agree to holding onto Skinner if the return isn't equal or an upgrade. My only beef with Skinner is although he can score goals, he's terrible in own end. His plus/minus is usually one of the worst on the team. Faulk, same situation and concerns. I'd propose a Lindolm or Rask fro RNH trade. Something needs to change and Rask may the guy who goes. Also would like to see a veteran D-man signed, as the CANES are solid, but still inexperienced on the back end. The goalie situation will be the toughest to fix imho. Carter Hutton's name keeps surfacing, so he may be a viable option.
Another blog had Faulk for Nurse, and after close consideration I'd pull the trigger on that one. CAR and EDM seem like perfect trade partners, I hope CAR pursues Jesse Puljujarvi as well.
im not a big believer in Jesse P, but if Chia makes a Chia trade, say something like 10th overall, Jesse P, a small piece for Faulk, I could live with it
Wouldn't Faulk for Nurse put you with Slavin, Hanifin, Nurse and Fleury on the left side? Not sure if all are LHD though. RNH would be nice. It seems you have a lot of 'decent' centers but really need an improvement. RNH could work as he is a clear upgrade for sure.
Faulk for RNH straight up. Nurse
Big question is Skinner fitting in with the new coaches plans ? And what teams may be interested in Skinner. I've heard LA Kings and Toronto at times.
FinnGod: A Chia trade would more likely be Pesce for McDavid 10th overall pick. BOLD MOVES
As June 22 approaches, the TSN guys are speculating that either Faulk or Hanifin may be dealt, and Skinner is also likely to go. LA and MTL are looking for scoring, should be a interesting draft day.
Canes should trade Faulk. Shake things up. If you can swing Faulk for RNH then do it for sure. Skinner seems fine, he's probably frustrating to watch since he's such a volume shooter, but since he shoots at a 10.7% career clip then that's perfectly fine. It's not like he's Faulk, taking a bunch of low % shots.
Faulk for Saad. Yes, do it.
Have we seen a meddlesome owner meddle his way to a championship outside of Jerry Jones? Dundon's going to have to learn the hard way to leave the hockey to the hockey guys and considering the guys he's let go since acquiring the team it's going to be a hard slow lesson.
