First Move by Gretzky. Keith that is and a good one IMO.
Moving Cam Talbot to Philly in exchange for young tendy Anthony Stolarz was a good move.
Good for both goalies. We all know that the deal was to make cap space for Sekera’s return.
The Oil benefits from a younger tendy that can put compete on Koskinen. You don’t think Stolarz is going to want to prove himself? This tower-of-power in goal, by height only (6’6” & 6’7”), should be interesting. Good move Keith/management team.
Next, record book/legend Sam Gagner returns to Edmonton. Don’t underestimate Gagner. He has soft hands and can score. He couldn’t find a line fit in Vancouver but he could in Edmonton. I feel it is best to send down young Puljujarvi and have him lend a hand in some winning with Bakersfield. Puljujarvi could be energized by Bakersfield’s energy and winning atmosphere. Let him finish the season down there and start fresh next season. I don’t think the Oilers management should give up on Puljujarvi. Come next December, if things haven’t changed, his trade value isn’t going to be any different. I think both the organization and the player each deserve a reset.
Coming back to Sam Gagner, he can’t be slotted into the line up until cap space is made. Chiarelli has really made a mess of this team. How the organization didn’t keep the finger on the pulse of how this was going is a real puzzle to me. Heads should roll from the top down. Clean house and hire in fresh executives that would never allow this to happen. Just awful management.
Here is how the axe should fall. Scott Howson (VP Player Development), Bob Green (Director, Player Personnel), Bill Scott (Director, Salary Cap Management & Asst. to the President of Hockey Operation), Duane Sutter (VP Player Personnel), Craig Mactavish (Senior VP, Hockey Operations). This entire list should be axed. It is a necessary evil that needs to be done. Clean house. Chiarelli can’t be blamed for the mess that is in Edmonton. A shameful cast of management that needs their walking papers.
I know that this will never happen with Wayne at the top of the food chain in Edmonton. Let’s face it, Craig Mactavish is dead weight. Being a senior VP of hockey operations and you can’t help manage to put a team together with the greatest talent this generation has seen should result in immediate dismissal. He should follow Chiarelli then the others as I listed before.
This article is more of a rant but it does have its validity. Edmonton’s future is still cloudy. For an Oil fan, we would love to see the sun shine on the team as it did a few years ago. Watching the fog linger over a talent like Conner is a real shame.
13 year rebuild and still out of the playoffs.
most of those people have been in the organisation for a good chunk of the decade of darkness. I beleive they are just as guilty as Chiarelli.
MacT has nothing to do with the big club....He works with the minor league coaches and players.....They are 1st place and on a 15 game winning streak....Chia is an idiot.
