Bruins Skate Pass Rangers 4-0

The Boston Bruins returned home on Thursday as they took the ice against the New York Islanders. Coming into the game Jaroslav Halak would be getting the start with Dan Vladar serving as a back-up. Both Ondrej Kase and Tuukka Rask remained on the injured list. Zach Senyshyn would be getting his first NHL action of the year after being called up Thursday morning.

1st Period: Boston would be the first to score at the 15: 46 mark after David Pastrnak's slap shot would beat Alexander Georgiev, stick side. Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron would get the assist. The Bruins, throughout the period, played strong defensive, stopping the Rangers from setting up offensive chances while providing consistent offensive upfront. As the period began winding down, Richie Richie would head to the penalty box for tripping but, the Bruins would not suffer as Patrice Bergeron would score short-handed in the slot after a near-perfect pass from Brad Marchand at the 2:26 mark. Almost one minute later, another short-handed scoring opportunity would come. Jack Studnicka would miss a wide-open net after a crossing, slot pass. The Bruins would end the period being outshot 14-9 but would hold the score at 2-0.

2nd Period: Heading into the second up 2-0, the Bruins would continue to play aggressive hockey. Libor Hajek would go to the penalty box for holding giving the Bruins their first powerplay of the night. At the 16:29 mark, David Krejci would score his first of the season on the powerplay after a top of the circle, d to d pass from Matt Grzelgyk beating Georgiev glove side. Just moments later, at 15:08, Jake Debrusk would score from inside the faceoff circle from a cross-ice pass from David Krejci. Krejci's goal would result in the Rangers taking their timeout to swap goalies putting Keith Kinkaid into the action. The Rangers defense would step holding the Bruins in the neutral zone, but their offense would continue to not produce. Rangers Ryan Lindgreen would be called for slashing at 7:48 putting the Bruins on their second powerplay of the night, although the Bruins would have impressive zone time they could not put it in the net. The Ranger's best opportunity would come up to that point in the game when Ryan Lindgreen would receive a break-away after exiting the penalty box but Halak would hold his own. With less than two minutes in the period, Brad Marchand would be called for hooking putting the Rangers on their first powerplay of the night but as before the Ranger's offense struggled with creating chances. The Bruins would end the period leading in shots 7-3 and with goals making it 4-0.

3rd period : Heading into the third period, the Bruins would kill off the rest of the Ranger's powerplay returning the game to 5 on 5. The play would start to even out as the Bruins started playing less aggressively but still held a strong defensive zone shutting down the Ranger's offense. David Pastrnak would head to the box for hooking with 9:13 remaining in the game but, the Bruins would kill the penalty with ease. With two just over 2 minutes left, the Bruins would take another penalty when Nick Richie would head to the penalty box. The Bruins once again shut down the Rangers powerplay and the Bruins walked away with the win. The Bruins would win 4-0 giving Jaroslav Halak the shutout.
