SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) interim General manager announced earlier today that the Sharks have signed North Bay Battalion forward Mitchell Russell. While per club policy, the terms of the contract were not disclosed, a lot of good things were said about the new Sharks prospect.
"Mitchell is a character player and leader on the ice with good production that helps his team win," as interim general manager Joe Will said. "He has a strong pedigree as a skater who was selected in the first round of the OHL Draft."
Russell has been compared a lot with Barclay Goodrow, a past Sharks player that played for the North bay Battalion as well. In an interview with JD Young from Locked on sharks, Russell stated that since he was compared with Goodrow he decided to watch him play closely and at the same time, he took the former sharks player as a source of inspiration for his play style. That means an in-your-face type of player that plays hard.
Russell is not the only Shark prospect that plays with the Battalion, Brandon Coe, his leading scorer teammate was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 draft by the organization. They are bound to start in the ahl at the same time next season, but only time will tell if they indeed will.
The right-handed forward is native from Barrie, Ontario and at 21 years, he stands exactly at 6-foot tall and 194 pounds. In 64 games played, he is first in goals (41) and third in points (88) in the last season.
