Leafs Sign Calle Jarnkrok

Another day and another Leafs signing, Friday night the Leafs announced that that had signed Forward Calle Jarnkrok to a four-year contract that carries an average annual value of 2.1 million dollars. Calle began last season as a member of the Seattle Kraken after being claimed from Nashville. As a member of the Kraken, he would collect a respectable 26 points in 49 games played. He would then be traded to the Calgary Flames at the deadline which I guess you could say things didn’t work well in his favor because after joining the flames he would manage only 4 assists in 17 games but in 12 playoff games he would manage 4 points.
So, what does Jarnkrok bring to the Maple Leafs? Well, with Ilya Mikheyev leaving and signing with Vancouver Calle Jarnkrok will replace him and will be a nice addition to the teams bottom six forward group whether it’s as a center or on the wing. Calle’s strength is the defensive side of the game, he is like David Kompf he will put points up but when there is a faceoff in Toronto’s end of the rink he will likely be on the ice because once the puck is out of the defensive zone Jarnkrok’s agility and speed will benefit the Leafs and their transitional style of play.
While reading up Calle Jarnkrok and the Leafs cap situation I realized that in yesterday’s article I made a mistake when I said that after signing Jordie Benn and Victor Mete that the Leafs only had $560,000 in cap space. The two contracts that were signed are both one-way deals which I was correct about I didn’t realize that at this moment that Benn and Mete are listed as being in the minors. So, Toronto’s cap space after this Calle Jarnkrok signing is actually $756,884 which still means the team will have to move a player or two out to gain some more breathing room with the cap which in my opinion means the likes of Justin Holl or Alex Kerfoot or who knows maybe both could be on their way out but regardless someone is surely leaving.
