"The Maple Leaf Great Debate"
All summer long we have all expressed our opinions of whether or not the Leafs should keep Kubina. Now I'm not about to jump on the kubina bandwagon just yet. Personally I would have loved for the Leafs to have signed McKee and Witt last July instead of the two they did(No ill towards Gill). But I think that since they have him, they should give him another year to prove his worth. If he has another year like last year than should try to trade him at the deadline, certainly his trade value won't be any lower than it is right now. If you look at the current contracts of the Dmen that signed this summer, then I don't think Kubina's contract is TOO bad. Timonen is a darn good defenceman, but do you think he's better than Kaberle(I think not). The one guy who I feel I can compare Kubina to is Hamrlik. IMO I'd rather have Kubina, but as of now Hamrlik makes more. I know Hamrlik will maybe get more points, but Montreal don't have Kaberle and McCabe to put on the power play. If Montreal still had Souray along with Markov and Hamrlik, do you think Hamrlik would get more points? I don't think so. Their defensive games are similar but Kubina has a physical side that Hamrlik don't. Kubina can play with Thorntons and Bertuzzis of the league because of his physical side and size/strength and is a real good penalty killer. If he could put all those tools together then he could become the player he was when Tampa won the cup. This is why I think they should hold on to him for at least one more year, let's see what happens.[img]
