Alright, so a G N' R reference from the 80's isn't the most timely thing I could come up with, but it applies to the Blues right now. Blues fans, I beseach you- be patient.
I know we want to see our last two first round picks in the Blue note ASAP, but we may have to wait for both. TJ Oshie (24th pick 2005) annnounced yesterday that he's returning to North Dakota for his junior year and Mr. Erik Johnson? We shall see. They seem to be enjoying the college life and can you really blame them? Money is nice, but college is a life experience that is impossible to go back to once that first contract is signed.
JD has expressed a little dissapointment that he's not getting TJ into the fold next season and also a little dissapointment that EJ didn't finish out this past season with the Blues, but that's all it is. It doesn't look like anyone in the Blues' front office is really freaking out about this, so I guess that's what the fans are for. We still don't know what EJ's plans are, so relax.
Personally I'd rather see these guys come in when they're 100% ready to go. It's just one more season before they become free agents and I'm sure a 27 year old Erik Johnson is going to be better than a 19 year old Erik Johnson.
Remember, we have two top six forwards that each played at least 3 years of college hockey. Lee Stempniak played 4 years at Dartmouth and David Backes played 3 years at the University of Minnesota-Mankato and neither one of them needed a full season in the AHL, so there is precedence for patience paying off in the end.
I can handle a season or so without the prospects, even though I really want to watch more of Oshie. However, top the Blues fans wish lists should be to fire Bernie Federko and hire someone of Joe Michaletti's caliber. I love Federko and wait he did for the Blues, but his color commenting reflects the serious head trauma his must have suffered while playing for the Blues. Please put someone on the air that can quickly describe hockey and get back to the action, not an ate up ex player that tells stories of eating too many grilled cheese sandwiches.
I agree - let him go back to college next season. Maybe if he wins the championship next year he will be ready to join the Blues. If not, 2 years without him on the team shouldn't be the downfall of the Blues.
As a Fighting Sioux fan I'm excited to see Oshie returning, as well as Hobey Baker winner Duncan and Chorney. Now we're just waiting on word from Toews. With those 3 coming back I think there is a greater chance Toews will also
If Toews doesn't stay in school then I'm really going to be annoyed with Oshie's decision.
