Sens Army ... Where Are You?

Seeing as this is my first blog, here's a little bit of background information:
I'm a Leafs fan. Living in Ottawa.
In the grand scheme of things, that's all that really needs to be said.
Now, this past weekend it got rather cool in the nation's capital. Naturally, such temperatures call for a ... sweater. But I decide to don not just any sweater ... I decided to drape myself in the blue and white for the first time this season.
Walking around Ottawa wearing a Leafs jersey pretty much turns oneself into a walking target. However, on this particular crisp September afternoon, nobody was aiming at this target.
During my travels that day, which including walking along the Rideau Canal and down Bank Street, only ONE person made a comment of any sort about my Leafs jersey -- and even then, it was a mere half-hearted "BOOOOO!" from some slack-jawed yokel as he drove by in his car.
And that was it.
I must say, Ottawa, I'm rather disappointed. I usually get much worse (past highlights include being heckled by a group of firefighters and a school bus full of kids). But hey, it's all in good fun ... they like it, I like it, it's all part of the rivalry. And sometimes, I even get greeted by secret Leafs supporters who whisper, "Yeah! Go Leafs" as they walk by.
But not on this particular weekend. Maybe the Sens Army will get into the spirit a couple weeks from now when the season actually starts. I certainly hope so. I wouldn't have it any other way.

We react more to the Sabres and their fans right now. Missing the playoffs two years in a row can dull the rivalry a bit, it'll be back though. On the other hand, I've seen more Sens shirts, jerseys, hats etc. than I ever have before. Not to mention the huge crowds for an intra-squad game and the unveiling of the new jersey. I think it's less that the 'Sens Army' isn't out there, I think it's a new sense of confidence in this town where people are more excited about the Senators and less excited about anything Leaf.
I am also a Leaf fan living near Ottawa and I drive into Ottawa each day for work. When my finace and I drive our truck into Ottawa we get some stares, the odd finger and such but no big deal. We have our truck all decked out. Its the Leafmobile :) I figure its good to show those sens fans what real fan support is. :)

With all due respect, most sens fans don't give a crap about the Leafs anymore, and it seems like everytime we talk about the sens nowadays SOMEbody has to mention the Blue and White. The rivalry is all but dead (and will remain that way until the Leafs make the playoffs), and the sens now have more of a rivalry with Buffalo.
First things first, there's nothing lower than a LEaf fan in Ottawa. Most of these folk are total rednecks or inbread trailor trash. Secondly, no one cares anymore about the leafs. Until they ice a semi competitive team there is no exictment in the the games (except that the Sens have been systematically crushing them for the last two years). I have a guy in My Evolutionary Biology class who wears Buffalo Jerseys and Anaheim Jerseys almost every class. This pisses me off wayy more than the hundreds of leaf fans on Campus. This is the general mentality of the Sens Army nowadays. I look foreward to the leafs Slaughters of 07-08.
Curios comment. Several years ago there was a study at the University of Manchester looking to understand why young men put on the opposing teams study concluded that most of the subjects had normal size genitals. They just "thought" they were inadequate and desperately craved attention. So, I think the lack of response from Senator fans was simply indifference or a genuine concern for your fragile masculine ego.jersey and sat among the fans of home team, a very provactive act in the highly emotional world of soccer. Anyway the study ultimately concluded that the action was the direct result of a fragile male ego. In some extreme cases it was observed that the young men thought they had small genitals. The
I'm a diehard sens fan who spent 4 years in Toronto for school. I wore my jersey and my Emery t-shirt around everywhere, and proudly at that. Especially during the playoff run last year, i was running around the streets of t.o. with my face painted, jersey...the whole 9 yards. I have to say that i got far more laughs than anything, in a city with the arguably the most hockey tradition in the nhl...
I'm a diehard Sens fan who just moved back to Ottawa after spending 4 years at school in Toronto. During that time i wore my sens jersey EVERYWHERE and not to mention my Emery t-shirt. During our playoff run last year, i was running around downtown, face painted, jersey on...the whole 9 yards and I received far more laughs (and even some cheers) than anything else. This is in a city with arguably more hockey tradition than any other nhl team...
