One team that I haven't really heard much interest or any interest at all in the Mats Sundin sweeps, pending a wave of the NTC, is the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now, I havent heard mutterings in believing in them as a contenders to seriously compete for the cup in the playoffs, but let's think about this logically for a second. When Syd went down with the high ankle sprain many thought there was a possibility that the Pens would slip and fall out of the top spot in the Atlantic division. However, with Malkin at the reins they seem to be dominating games on most nights. And with that Ryan Malone and Jordan Stall have really woken up it seems, with Malone racking up the points and Stall really creating some decent scoring opportunities. When Syd comes back, which hopefully will not end the chemsitry that seems to be flowing around as it usually does, this team is a very young and dangerous team. Now imagine that team with a solid and very skilled veteran presence in Mats Sundin. This free's up Malkin to play wing on either Sundin or Crosbys line and creates more interesting line combinations for the Pens. Not to mention a powerplay sporting Crosby, Sundin, Malkin, Gonchar and Sykora, it could be deadly. Subsequently, this will never happen and I know its silly to even think about it as Toronto would probably not receive a package that will benefit Toronto as much as others, but it would sure as hell be entertaining to see Mats play on such a young and Dynamic team as the Pens.
