The Chicago Blackhawks had the NHL's fifth-worst record and only an 8% shot at drawing the 1st pick in the draft. I guess it was their lucky day. After grabbing Jonathan Toews last years draft, the Hawks get ready for a possible franchise changing decision in 2007.
Unlike some past drafts many would argue that there is not a clear cut #1 pick this season. Many are touting
Patrick Kane as the best of the bunch, his huge numbers this season, including a tidy 4 points in game 7 Monday night vs the Soo Greyhounds make him a solid choice. Kane is in his rookie season in the OHL after the Knights scooped him away from the NCAA. Kane is a seat filler, he has hands a plenty and can put on a show at times with his quick feet and exceptional dangles.
Kane has focused on his D zone and neutral zone play this season and it shows. He has come miles in these areas that are crucial to playing big minutes in the pros.
Jacub Voracek is another star in the making. The Halifax Mooseheads player has lit up the QMJHL this season. The only knock on Jacub may be his skating, some scouts question how it will stack up with the speed of the "new" NHL.
Angelo Esposito started the season as the consensus #1 pick. His stock has dropped in some circles as he has had too many games where he seemed invisible.
A nice surprise is
Kyle Turris playing out of the BCHL. This kid has seen his stock rise from off the radar to as high as the top 5 of late.
