The following is my first attempt at a blog. It is a response to an email from a friend of mine, a Senators fan (
www.hockeyschlock.wordpress.com - please visit), who asked me how I was enjoying the rollercoaster ride that was the Flys/Caps QF series following the Game 5 loss to the Caps, bringing the series to a Flyers' lead of 3 games to 2. I'm not happy, but I'm not crushed by the result, either...
I'm doing surprisingly well, which is either a sign of maturation or dulled
senses.
I really came into the final week of the season with the realization that the Flys
might actually miss the playoffs again this season, and when they got in I was thankful.
Anything past the first round is a huge bonus.
I'm enjoying the hell out of watching this series. The Flys have shown great
cohesion at most times (the most glaring exceptions are the first two periods today
- they blew that game - and the third period of game one). The Caps have played
better and harder with each passing game. Both teams are learning what they will
need to get farther in the coming years...and they both will develop into more dangerous
teams. This year, however (in my eyes), is a growing year for each team, and this
series will bring back the rivalry the Caps and Flys had in the Patrick Division
days. I look forward to it.
On a side note, with the financial issues that are affecting my aforementioned senses,
I went the frugal route when picking a pint of rum for the night. Next time I will
spend the extra few bucks for some Captain. The brand I picked is to the Captain
what Dewars is to the Macallan.
Hope things ease for you soon regarding the Sens. Think toward the upcoming Rush
shows, and breathe...
I hope I didn't offend any Dewars fans, or Caps fans, in this process. The Capitals have shown me they mean business in this series. It is ours to take, if we want it bad enough.
And Al, it's great knowing you and trading the back-and-forths.
Good stuff man. I agree with you. This is great for both of our teams, and the fans. The old rivalry will be back! Making the regular season matchups real entertaining. Hopefully they dont put any games on NBC next year...Cant stand Pierre and Milbury.
Actually, I wrote that email after the Flys scored to bring it back to a one goal game; hoping you were near a computer at the time. I should have known better. I'll say this; I don't envy you the cheap rum hangover ;~}The Flyers have more playoff experience than the Caps, which is a nice feature in this series for you. It's tough when your top scorers are playoff rookies as are Ovie, Backstrom and Semin. The same can be said for Richards and Carter, but at least you have Briere and Gagne, along with some big minute, playoff tested dmen. I'm fairly certain you'll get your 2nd round "gravy".
