I believe this weekend, perhaps even today, will be the last of Maxim Afinogenov in a Buffalo Sabres sweater. Now, don't get me wrong, I am a Sabres fan of the utmost degree. My first game, albeit only six years ago or so, January 12, Sabres v. Islanders and Satan had put in his first goal in a long time ending a what came to be the norm - a slump. I have watched and listened to the "experts", moreso just the local WGR 550 personalities in Buffalo simply because they are the top-rated sports show in the nation. But on my own accord, have come to the realization that although you because "attached" to the players, there has to be a time where a fan lets go and hopes that the powers that be make decisions for the betterment of the team. I have seen Barnes, Biron (miss you Marty) Brown, McKee, Drury, Briere, Dumont, Pyatt, Fitzpatrick, Campbell and a slew of other players leave Buffalo- players that were there since I became a fan. However, on the flip side- I have seen players like Vanek, Pominville, Roy, Stafford and a bunch more develop into the Sabres we see today, which if you ask me are very promising. Max will most likely be dealt in a package and shipped off to a new NHL city, Atlanta, Columbus, L.A., or some place that can use a veteran forward with Max's upside, such as speed, quickness, abilitly to make Defensemen move back and his sheer ability to make things exciting. I will be sad to see him go as he has been here since I have been a fan, however, hopefully what is gotten in return will be grand enough to allow Max's Buffalo fans to contiue to cheer for him from afar.
Max was my 2nd favorite Sabre after Drury for a long time, but I can't stand him anymore. Good riddance. I look forward to watching the Sabres or the Avs, depending on which conference he gets traded to, capitalizing on his ridiculous turnovers.
Who the eff would want him??
