Just my .02
While rumors swirl in Ottawa about what moving Andrej Meszaros and (possibly others) might mean in terms of future additions to the Sens roster, let's not forget the trade that never was of this past summer: Nikolai Khabibulin to the Sens for something . . . like Chris Neil.
For the Hawks, it's a salary dump (needed to get under the cap) and loosens up a logjam at G among Cristobal Huet, Antti Niemi and Corey Crawford.
The Sens consider themselves, and are, a Cup contender. Yet they head into the season with Martin Gerber as their #1 and a considerable drop-off from there.
For all the talk about Glen Murray and Brendan Shanahan, excuse me, Ottawa needs a goalie much more than an aging power forward.
Khabibulin showed down the stretch last year he can still play at a an elite level.
This deal seems to make a lot of sense right now and just might happen in the next week or two. Hawk fans: don't expect a lot in return. Both teams are doing each other a favor with this move.
Didnt Ottawa and Chicago talk already? Chicago doesnt need to dump any salary and can easily fetch much better than Neil for Bulin...just have to relax and wait for a team to struggle early.
Ottawa is not a cup contender! They have a week defense and horrible goaltending.
pecafan doesn't know what he's talking about. Typical bandwagon junkie
Um I'm a Leaf fan man through and through!
Hawks are 2 million OVER the cap. Whether you think the Sens are a Cup contender or not, they think they are. Leaf fan perspectives on the Habs and Sens respectfully disallowed. :)
Makes sense, ottawa will contend if they get goaltending and if they dont a Khabibulin trade seems logical enough
So instead of picking up an aging power forward, we pick up an aging goalie? Any other gems you'd like to share with us.
We really need a real No.1 Goaltender in Ottawa like Khabibulin if we want to be better than last year. Maybe Khabibulin, Barker to Ottawa for Neil, Zubov and 1rst pick (from San Jose) to Chicago?
