Ok, first I would like to say that resigning the Sedin twins was clearly the right move to make. Working on this extension with Lou, also a great idea and a huge piece of the puzzle. Now these were difinitely my main concerns with our team is the future of those huge components. Now, that being said where is the improvement? Gabs....gone Mike Cam....gone Brian Gionta....gone John Madden....gone. obviously the future of Martin Havlat lies ahead and he could possibly find a home in Van city but he doesn't really seem like a guy that Mike Gillis considers to play his style hockey. Martin tends to be soft at times and his back checking is spotty, but don't get me wrong his offensive skill set and creativity are high above average and he would help this team generate some offense. The point is that MG has to do something to improve this team and get us over that middle of the road median. I've always thought of MG as a very good choice for our GM and I believe he is one of the most intelligent minds in hockey and I just hope that Mike has something up his sleeve because the only things that is a fact thus far in the fresh free agent period is that the our rivals in the Great Northwest in Edmonton and Calgary have improved and gotten better. Go Canucks Go
I am somewhat shocked at the silence from the west coast. However, it's still early. I wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of tanguay, afiniganov, etc signed in order to provide some proven second line scoring there.
