Sidney Crosby, enough said.
Throughout the course of last year my friends and I would continually debate over who the best hockey player in the world was. Time and time again we would see amazing skillful goals being scored by OV as he went on to capture and defend the lester b pearson award for NHL's most outstanding player. Their is no debate that OV is the world's best goal scorer, but I refuse to believe that complete's a hockey player.
As the playoff's approached an OV vs. Sid matchup was looking more and more likely and i felt that this series could ultimatley determine No. 1 in the world. And if someone looked at the stats of that series they would see OV with more point then Sid, statistically giving him the edge. But if I've learnt anything about this past years playoff's, its that stats dont tell the whole story .
Goals, assists, points are all very important, but beyond those three categories there is much more.
Crosby showed how much he had improved over just last years cup run. He was winning over 50 % of his faceoffs, he was shot blocking, he was going to the net time and time again, the place where playoff goals will always be scored from. And as usual he was contributing to those all important three categories.
And as I watched OV on the ice i thought to myself, "man this guy can shoot the puck, but..."
" How long of a shift was that? almost two minutes?"
" 1 on 3 and he tries to beat them, dump it in? "
"dude, pass the puck?"
There is no denying his skills, but to be the best hockey player in the world it's more then just scoring, and in my opinion Sid showed that and OV did not.
The best hockey player in the world, no questions asked. Sidney crosby.
Number two? I don't believe Ovechkin is a lock, someone named Gino could create a large debate.
