The Devs road success continues, as they beat the Bruins in Boston in a thrilling game to improve to 6-0-0 on the road. It was a great contest, and a huge win for the Devils. Here are some observations from this one:
-Finally, the Devils got out to a fast start. And this was before the first goal. From the get-go, the Devils jumped on any opportunities they saw. The opening was much different from the Buffalo game-the Devs seemed alive.
-David Clarkson got the Devils ahead midway through the first by poking a puck into the net off of a Niclas Bergfors shot that trickled by Tim Thomas. Great awareness from Clarkson, who never gave up on the play, and crashed the net for the tip-in.
-The Bruins had an early powerplay opportunity in the second period, and 11 seconds after it ended, Patrice Bergeron knocked home a rebound. The Devils started the second period very badly, but fortunately rebounded after this.
-Danius Zubrus was great tonight. Playing with Parise and Langenbrunner, Zubrus moved the puck effectively, generated a handful of scoring chances, and knocked home the game winner with 1:26 remaining after a Parise wrister trickled by Thomas, as Danius dived into the crease to knock it in.
-What can you say about Yann Danis's effort? He was the 'first star' in this one. The loan goal was unstoppable, and besides that one rebound, Danis was everywhere, making every save he needed to. There was talk of how the Devils may have needed to score a good number of goals and keep the pressure off Danis-he was fine with it, and he was brilliant tonight. Great Devils debut.
-I still don't like the breakup of the ZZ Pop line. Although Zubrus played well with Parise and Lags tonight, Zajac was not effective with Pikkirainen and Rolston, and there was no chemistry between the three to be seen.
-The Devils may have suffered a huge loss with this win. Johnny Oduya was injured in the second period and did not return. For a Devils team that has already lost Paul Martin, this would be a huge blow. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
-And an honorable mention-I've been really impressed with Niclas Bergfors over the last few games. Another point tonight (primary assist on the Zubrus goal-his shot trickled past Thomas), as Bergfors has been setting up plays and moving the puck effectively. His future looks really bright.
-The Devils look to start 7-0 on the road when they travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning. The game is an afternoon affair, starting Saturday at three. This is a good opportunity for the Devils to bring home an 8-4 record against a mediocre team. Marty should be back in goal, and hopefully Oduya is back, too.
umm... bergfors got an assist on the 1st goal not the 2 nd as you stated
shoot, my bad, thanks
