After a dissappointing finish in the first round, it is apparent that the culture of our team needs a bit of a shake. I think we have a very skilled team, but there are quite a few changes that need to be made. Mostly we need more players that will be more accountable and play a leadership role. We have a team of boys but we need a team of men. In making this blog, I took into account who could be available via trade as we cant just have any one we want.
Trade Andrej Sekera, Drew Stafford and a 3rd rd pick for D Tomas Kaberle
Our powerplay has been awful the past 2 seasons and a backend pairing of kaberle and myers would give instant credibility to the powerplay. Kaberle is not much of a leader but his pure skill would instantly make us a better team. Has a year left on his contract and doesnt have a NTC this summer.
Trade Derek Roy for Shane Doan
Phx would make this trade because they had their best season ever and Doan did not have a very good season. He is a very physical sklled player but must importantly he is an incredible leader. He would get the C and rivet would be stripped of it. He would bring a ton of energy to our game and would make the young guys better. Ennis will take roys spot and fill it very well. Cant have too many small guys
Trade Nathan Gerbe, and 1st rd pick for Nathan Horton. Big guy for little guy. FLA is in rebuild mode and would love the promising prospect and pick. Our 1st rd pick is a later one so it shouldn’t affect us too much as we already have a lot of good prospects coming up. Horton brings a 6’4 frame who can play the wall very well and can score. He also can play center or RW.
Resign Tallinder to a 2 year 5.5 million dollar deal. Will want more than 1 year and after his comeback season he deserves it. Will continue to help myers grow as a player.
Sign Matt Cooke to a 3 year 5.5 million dollar deal. Cooke is a very gritty winger who gets under the skin of opposing teams and can chip in on offense every once in a while too. He would make other teams take us much more seriously.
Sign Dennis Seidenberg to a 2 year 6 million dollar deal- Dennis is a very steady defender who can chip in and at the same time play very sound defensive hockey.
Place Enroth in back up role- This kid is very good and if placed in a back up role we could play miller for less games and give him a break.
