As I look back on this season, 2009/2010 can't be called anything but a success. I can't help but look at the Kings and think about the years of prosperity that are on the horizon for this franchise. Look around the NHL at a team like Vancouver (my hometown team) and I see a 2-3 year window for a winning season before the core gets too old. Both the Sedin duo and Luongo are in their 30s and without these two pieces (I consider the Sedins one piece) the Canucks aren't as good as they are today.
Anyways, my point is, the Kings have a long time before their core gets old. Personally I see 5 more years of IMPROVEMENT before the core hits its peak. If we can finish in 6th with 5 years of improvement ahead, I can't wait to see what the future holds. With drafted players like Schenn, and young players like Doughty (I can tell you right now that a lot of fans around the league forget that this guy is only finished his second year in the league) the outlook is bright.
I really don’t think that it is that much of a stretch to think that this team could contend for a division championship in 2-3 years. I’m not here to make predictions though, I’m here to give you my opinion on the present, and the present for this franchise looks really good. Let’s all give a round of applause to Dean Lombardi, he deserves it. Building a team like this through the draft takes a lot of patience, and guts. He isn’t making stupid trades, he is building a dynasty. I can’t wait to see the results that this team turns out in the season to come. Here’s to a rematch in next year’s playoffs with Vancouver, and here’s to a King’s win!
It’s late here in Vancouver, so I’m off to bed. Hope everyone has a good night.
