I find my self dragging my feet this evening, upon hearing the news that long time beloved flyer simon gange could be traded, has left somwhat of an empty sick feeling in my stomach, allthough i am only saying this as a die hard fan of the flyers and gange (i am sure there are a few teams that would paw at the chance for him).
Even though he has had a ruff last couple of years with injuries he has still managed to put up some impressive numbers with 17 g and 23 A in 58 G last season that's not too bad, and in the 2008-2009 season he had 34 G and 40G in 79 G, even though he's starting to get up the in age.
personally having a vetran winger like simon is truly an asset to the flyers, not only to help with the team, like winning game 4 against boston in overtime, coming back from injury and lifting the team to one of the most historic comback in the history of the NHL, but also to help develop the younger guys like JVR and Giroux.
In my personal opinion to make a movee= today one should look at the likes of carter at $5 mill a year even though he has lead the team in goals, has failed to come through when it's clutch time(i am still a little upset about the playoffs lol sorry jeff). the real reason for moving him is the fact that the flyers are strong down the middle with richards briere (who has proven to be the better centre then jeff) and giroux then your left with a 5mill a year fourth liner?? i think not, with that position most likely going to betts who has had one hell of a year and one of the best faceoff guys the flyers had in the playoffs.
i don't own a team myself or have any say in anything that goes on with my beloved flyers but if it were up to me the move that i would be looking to make woulld most certinaly be carter, send him to edmonton for hemsky/souray, i know souray's on waivers right now lol. or get one of their younger guys like svennson or eberle could you imagine them playing with giroux? lol.
sorry for rambling , just felt like i had to get my opinoin out there thanks for your time
