The vast majority of us hockey fans are well aware of the phenomenon that is Fantasy Sports. Whether it's a free public pool or a private pool that may or may not involve an entry fee, we all know one can get lost in the fantasy realm of sports.
Case in point is the recent comments of Rogers SportsNet voice Nick Kypreos.
I believe that the reason viewership is down for the BUF-OTT ECF series is that fantasy sports have directed a lot of viewers over to the WCF ftrng DET-ANA in a classic battle of grit determination and scoring.
Do you feel that fantasy pools can sway audiences to one game or another? If the majority of players on your roster are playing in the WCF would you rather pay attention to that game or watch the ECF with teams that may or may not interest you?
In this round it should not matter since the games are never played on the same day at the same time. A true hockey fan would follow his/her team and watch all of those games in the playoffs. Once eliminated (or if they don't qualify e.g. Leafs), I think real fans would simply follow the games/series that are most entertaining.
I would disagree with Kypreos sentiment based on the fact that the regular season scoring studs were all on the Sabres and Sens rosters..
Nick Kypreos is a weiner. If his right foot could talk, I'd believe what it would say over anything that comes out of his mouth.
