Now I know that this would be a long shot for the Penguins to pull off but..........why not attempt to trade Alex Goligoski to the Ducks for Bobby Ryan? It looks like the Ducks are not willing to give Ryan the contract he is looking for (somewhere in the range they are paying Getzlaf). With the subtraction of Pronger last season and the retirement of Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks are in need of a solid puck moving d-man. That is one thing that Goligoski would bring to the Ducks.
With the additions of Michalek and Martin this off-season I really don't know where that leaves Goligoski on this team. I know a lot of people are really high on Alex and have stated that he is one of the Pens future pieces. While I wouldn't argue the fact that he does have good offensive upside (not much of a fan on the defensive side of the blueline) I think he is projecting to be a 3rd pairing guy, along with Lovejoy this season. 1.8 million isn't a lot to pay a guy like Gogo but with Letang, IMO becoming a more well rounded defender Gogo might be the odd man out.
I also understand that with the Pens cap space they might have to add more or get real crative but I think Ryan could be that guy they Pens have been looking for to play with Crosby for the last 5 years.
