It does not take a genius to figure out how I feel about the Flyers continued youth movement. Just look at my avatar. It has been that way since season’s start, save the removal of Steve Downie after his trade out. I stuck with Claude Giroux and Ryan Parent when they were not with the Flyers and now that they are I am happy as a clam! Why shouldn’t I be? They are both playing great!

Giroux was First Star Of The Game today after being Second Star yesterday. In his last ten games he has 3 goals and five assists and is a +5. Factor in he has also got only one power play assist and you can see how effective he is.

Parent is not a stats player, so I had to invent one to measure his effectiveness. I decided to start tracking his goals against average. In six games, he has played a little more than two full games worth of hockey and he has been on the ice for five goals against. Heatley, Savard and Kobasew scored at even strength and Kovalchuk and Spezza scored on the power play. So he is out there against top guys. His GAA is 2.38. That is a pretty nice number that would be near the top 10 goalies in the league. Plus those goalies get to pad their minutes against weak lines.

Enjoy the stretch drive!

I am very impressed with Claude. He's been playing great, not only is he playing well offensively, but he's also showing some physicality as well, which I like. For Ryan, he's playing very well. When he's out there on the ice, I feel very comfortable because I know he'll make the smart, calm play. Overall, both guys are playing very well.
