Ed Snider announced today that the Flyers have reached an extension with current GM Paul Holmgren that will keep him for another three years. This is a great thing for the team and is easily our best signing of the year. Holmgren has done something that never happens in hockey. Through his great trades and signings he took a last place team to the Eastern Conference Finals. Holmgren is a rare type of GM, he is always adding to the team no matter what place the team is in and how much cap space they have. Hopefully he continues his smart moves for another three years. He is shaping up to be the best GM in the Flyers 41 years.

Today, the Flyers announced that they have signed free agent winger Arron Asham. The deal is a multi-year contract with undisclosed terms. Asham is a bruising winger that fits the Flyers style perfectly. He stands at 5'11", 205 lbs. He will likely play on the 4th line. The likely fourth line will be Asham-Thoreson-Cote which will make for one of the hardest lines to play against in the NHL. They may not score a lot, but they will definitely force the opponents to always be looking over their shoulders. Another good depth signing by Paul Holmgren.
